pollution gear & egr stuff
Prospeeder replied to waggaclint's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
removing the EGR will do NOTHING but make your car possibly ping. They only open under certain conditions and lower cumbustion chamber temps, they allow some exhaust gasses to enter the intake manifold. So removing it does worse for your engine, and the enviroment. The catalitic converters, if old and plugged up do make a large restricion, but new ones have hardly any noticable loss in performance or resriction, and they keep your exhaust from Stinking and remove exsess hydrocarbons in the exhaust = bad for enviroment, so unles its clogged up, i woulndnt bother, plus youll never pass an inspection or emissions without it. -
I thought RX's had that adjustment too, iv herd about it, but it messes up ur camber and toe in and out and what not.

Not sure what to do
Prospeeder replied to SubaruWagon87's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
MY grandmas got a 94 Automatic 4.3 Vortec 2 door blazer. I LIKE it alot, its nice to drive, but....it does rattle from the back, (my subaru rattled too) and she hasnt had any transmission problems, changing the fluid and filter go a long way as maintence. And the engine...she lost one of the rod bearings for no reason, full of oil, never abused. LUCKILY it was under warrenty from the dealer she got it from. She had a 1987 GL-10 before the blazer, she hated that little subaru tho, lol, constantly fixing it. But the blazer just recently had the radiator or somthing blow out, she didnt say specificly. But That blazer gets TERRIBLE gas mileage, like barley more than a truck with a V8 would get. -
Low miles arnt always THAT great, that can mean everything that usually goes wrong, hasnt yet, so you get to replace all of it soon.

well one thing thats different is you have to split the block in half to take it all apart, and then put it back and reseal it.

86 GL-10 Turbo FWD questions!
Prospeeder replied to Kitsuneracer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey now, i LIKE sedans, thats the main reason i bought this one, was it wasnt a wagon (bleh) or a 3 door (i like some space for friends to get in) Im not sure how i feel about the Turbo really, its sad my little 88 Mazda 323 1.6 N/A Sedan was about as fast as this Turbo 1.8, lol. I might have gotten a bad egg, who knows, its been a pain in my rump roast since i got it, but i got it for a 100$, lol, and have put 5-600 into it. if no one buys it i may get new seats, new heads, and a heater core and drive it. -
86 GL-10 Turbo FWD questions!
Prospeeder replied to Kitsuneracer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1600 is WAY too much, im having a hard enough time having people just call me on mine for 1100$ lol and they havent even seen it, its in party line/paper. Well did u let it hit operating temprature? did it rise higher than the middle? how do u know it had stop leak? u sure its not oil from possible head gaskets? The main thing i would be worried about is head gaskets! If ur sure no headgaskets, a new 100$ radiator and it would be great, what kinda conditions the body in? OH and the gurgling, my RX did that for awhile, just drive it around abit and it will work the air out of the heater core, alls that is, is trapped air bubbles. -
throttle positioning sensor, has a dead spot or is mis adjusted
-
check the passenger side timing belt, those can break and the car will still run on 2 clylinders!
-
radiator, they all get clogged up and the car will run hotter and hotter and hotter till it overheats

trans vacuum line question
Prospeeder replied to Jub Nub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
umm it means replace the transmission vacuum modulator, its pretty important to the transmission and its shifting. THere less than 20$ and you will damage the transmission not having it hooked up, it will bang into gear and cause alot of wear along with erratic shifts and no shifting. and the boost sounds normal up to when u say it suddenly spikes, that sounds like ur wastegate isnt working correctly, i have a spare -
why...it was a perfectly good car

Did I get the wrong bloody O-rings?!
Prospeeder replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just put headgaskets on the thing and drive it, im sure your cars gonna rust apart anyway before that oring will actually fail. unless it already has..... (i think this is the same rust bucket car im talkiing about right?) -
Figured Out What Is Wrong with Rocky
Prospeeder replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
manual or automatic? if its a manual, just put it in 5th w/ the ebrake on, and get a 1/2 drive ratchet with a big pipe and it should come off, installation is reverse, just get it TIGHT! -
"Tick of Death" or Rod Knock?
Prospeeder replied to Gloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my sube sat for like 2 years, when i started it, BOY were those lifters LOUD for the first 15 minutes, like it sounded like rod nock, i got sorta scard, but it went away after like 15-20 minutes and now u cant even hear them. -
trust me, these cars are not worth just fixing and selling, because theres not alot of resale for them. and the ammount of work and parts will get pretty close to what you can get for it and u may not make much of any money if any. If your gonna fix it, drive it, much better investment

My car must love the taste of coolant
Prospeeder replied to Prospeeder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yea mistake #1, you dont buy a turbo 80's car as a daily driver. u rely on. Oh yea it tested negative on the headgasket test. I think it wont start cause of the CTS, the soldering job isnt holding up, its coming off, so i yanked off both wires, and now the car starts easier but dies right away with the ECS light on when its started for the breif 5 seconds. If not im thinking like that crack in the intake tube from the MAF got bigger....
