Saw another Gen 1 Brat today!
Prospeeder replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Theres a 1st Gen Brat parked in front of some1s hous, next to a beat up corsica and van, all three not moving since iv noticed them. It has extremly oxidised Oranage paint, a white topper, and seemed to be in ok shape, 4WD too. Theres also a 1st gen brat running around thats silver, with those aftermarket Mag wheels they had back then, abit rusty but its alright. -
I belive the DL's had the quad 4 headlight setup, and GLs had the composite ones, badging, and DLs were more apt to be complete base models compared to GLs

Ull want a 5 speed, Dual range car, steer clear of the turbos if you dont wanna do lots of maintence or fix other peoples neglect, I dunno if SPFI cars had dual range or not.
-
Nice Drivetrain for the brat?
Prospeeder replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the turbo sticking out of the hood of that thing looks soo stupid. Imagine one rock flys up and hits that its done for, and possibley your engine too. -

Little 88 xt6 auto question
Prospeeder replied to xfinrodx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I thought you used the Center Lock button on the consol and it locked it in 4WD? THats how it seemed in the 88 XT Turbo FT4WD i was gonna get, the autos dont have that??? how does the 4WD work then.... -
I dunno about u guys but my car breaks them loose into second if your really on it (Turbo helps i guess). with my Summer tires or winter. My old Mazda had a 1.6 $ cyl, and it did way better on gas than this, it only redlined at like 5500 and i constantly hit that mark every day and i got damn near 30 mpg full city driving. But my subarus way faster, lol, ALOT more torque down low for sure. I like these cars, especially having 4 studded snow tires and 4wd on in a big ice/snow storm and everyones spinning and sliding, and im not even spinning a tire from a stop or sliding around corners, these cars are fairly amazing. Im loving mine more, just wish the heater worked better.....

oh god, my gaskets just had a serious failure when i left work, i started it to go and it was POURING out white smoke, ohh man, and i drove and the large clouds wouldnt stop, or even slow, and i went to my friends, stopped, and smelled coolant, and now i went and came home and it left large clouds of lingering smoke. Uhg looks like im not gonna be waiting till spring....************ its like almost 0 outside.
-
alright, well it wasnt perfect, and some of the bolts i couldnt get the gunk out of the threads, so im gonna order brand new bolts and new gaskets, also probably get a different intake manifold. I may have to have this wait till march or somthing, its WAY to cold, for now its running ok and not leaking tons of coolant. im not sure if my Torque wrench goes that low or not, it sa craftsmen, and it goes to 20 ftlbs but it keeps going quite a bit after the 20 mark, so mabye it does go to 14-16 or so. Also what kind of thread chaser would i want to use, im gonna guess like 10 mm or somthing? I also antisiezed all the bolts, so they can come out easy
-
ah, torque.....what were the specs suppose to be? I got a new 1/2 in drive torque wrench for xmas. how would you reccomend cleaning the surface? i used 600 grit sandpaper till it was shiny and clean
-
BAH! It is the Intake gaskets, i took a look, and the passenger side one is pouring out coolant, and my cars now burning more coolant than ever, crap! I can see where is trailing out of the intake gasket, why the hell didnt they seal??!!!

Show off your roos Mileage!
Prospeeder replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My odometer reads 260,500 miles. But the engine has onl 35k on it or so, so does that count? the body has lasted -
You know my car would do somewhat the same thing randomly, i knwo different fueling system, and turbo, but it would idle great then just slowly nosedive till it stalled out, somtimes tried to hang to life but just died, although it would start back up for me and idle fine. Hasnt dont it since i replace the intake manifold gaskets
