December 12, 200619 yr I am putting a 1985 MPFI turbo EA82 in an 88 SPFI wagon I have already installed the engine, the engine bay portion of the wiring harness, and the computer. All the prepherial things work, including the starter. But there is not power to the fuel pump or the starter. Many of the plugs were the same but I have a feeling that doesnt mean anything. Many other plugs are still homeless. Looking for any experienced help. Clayton
December 12, 200619 yr You're gonna need a home for all those plugs. And i believe the fuel pump is run differently with the MPFI than it is with the SPFI, in regards to the disty telling the pump to turn on in the SPFI.
December 12, 200619 yr You are dealing with two completely different fuel and ignition systems. Don't count on anything plugging in and working. Noah is onto something RE: different pump triggering, but its not a difference between turbo and SPFI, its a difference between the 85-86 fuel/ignition system and the 87+ system. Time to bust out the wiring diagrams for each.
December 13, 200619 yr Author I do have the both complete factory service manuals for the 88 and 85, but I was hoping that perhaps someone has dealt with this before so they could point me in the right direction before I dive in.
December 14, 200619 yr The turbo uses a higher pressure fuel pump as well. Best thing to do is just swap the turbo dash harness into the car. The rear harness/dash harness connection will be a lot easier to figure out. GD
December 15, 200619 yr Author Doesnt the SPFI use a higher pressure pump, I coulda sworn I saw that in the FSM
December 23, 200619 yr Doesnt the SPFI use a higher pressure pump, I coulda sworn I saw that in the FSM Don't think so. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I am about positive that the FSM rates the turbo pump at 60-70 PSI and the SPFI pump is a bit less than that.
December 28, 200619 yr On the turbo, the ECU grounds both the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. Compare to the SPFI and at most you'd have to run another wire or two from the ecu connector back to the pump connection. http://dodgeneon.net/subaru/
