December 16, 200619 yr I HAVE A 1998 SUBARU FORESTER S MODEL. THE ABS LIGHT REMAINS ON. IS THERE ANY WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? iS THERE A FUSE OR ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE IT TO COME ON? ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTINS ARE PLUGGED INTO EACH WHEEL.

ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTINS ARE PLUGGED INTO EACH WHEEL. Start with checking the battery, it's terminal connections, and altenator charging system. Slightly low voltage can sometimes trigger the Brake and/or ABS indicators (have personally experienced this). If the Battery indicator is not lit as well, most likely ok but doesn't hurt to check anyway.
December 16, 200619 yr Start as stated above. the second most common reason is a dirty sensor. You just need to get under the car remove and clean the sensors (wipe them off). Subaru ABS is like the rest of the car, seems to last for the life of the car. nipper
December 16, 200619 yr not meaning to hi-jack but... has anyone ever replace the sensors? i have one that got damaged when that notched wheel some how came loose while driving an chewed up the sensor end.. i'm hopeing that it'll be simple (i'm sure it won't be cheap)
December 16, 200619 yr Yah the ABS wheel speed sensor is about $120 OE. Did the tone wheel get damaged as well? Replacement looks pretty straightforward. There are specs for the clearance between the sensor and tone wheel teeth that must be measured and maintained during installation.
