December 24, 200619 yr hi guys...i just bought my sub 1.6 gl 1988.but...i'm about to sell it...i found what i realy wanted...subaru leone 1.8 GL 1986 wagon (not 4X4). do i make a mistake by selling my car and buying the other or is it a good exchanging? what do i gain by that? it is good for me,because i love wagons... i don't want to do a mistake..is it a good car as the 1.6?
December 24, 200619 yr The Subarus sold in Israel were equipped differently then the ones sold in the USA (and probably most countries where USMB members live) so it might be difficult for most of us to offer advice. Moshem74 lives in Israel and has given good information on Israeli Subarus. You might want to send a PM (private message) to him.
December 25, 200619 yr Author i dont care about the equipment...i ask if it is better to exchange my 1.6 (ea-71) subaru with a 1986 ea82 subaru station wagon with auto gear.
December 25, 200619 yr If by auto gear you mean automatic transmission, then no. To put it shortly they are junk. Many people here prefer the engine you've got over the EA82 because it's simpler and somewhat more reliable. Plus you've got 4WD. I say keep your car.
December 25, 200619 yr EA82 is fine if you can get parts for it and work on it. it has timing belts and a number of timing pulley bearings that can all fail. the EA71 doesn't have those. so if parts are hard to get, then you may want to consider the EA71 since it doesnt' have all of that to worry about. the EA82 is a fine motor. auto trans is a bad idea too if parts are hard to find.
December 25, 200619 yr Author parts are available since we have a lot of soobs around here...parts are average in price....but is it hard to work on this engine.i never had an experience with soob before..i'm a citroen mechanic. if it is not so recomended i will stay with my current car.EA71. please help me to decide.should i go for the adventure or not. p.s: the car i'm about to buy is auto tranny 2wd 1.8 ea-82 the trans feel smooth on all shifts the engine is healthy. what do you say guys? should i become an ea82 owner?
December 25, 200619 yr the EA82 is easy to work on. if it's a 3AT transmission then i'd avoid it like the plague. if it's a 4EAT trans then maybe. in the end...take the info and decide. i'd never want someone else to decide what im' driving!
December 25, 200619 yr ea82's are no less reliable then any other subaru engine but they have timing belts unlike the ea71. this just means they are a little more expensive to maintain and they do have an affinity for killing head gaskets evrey 150,000 miles, but that's about it as far as differances go
December 25, 200619 yr Author thanks guys. i think...no..i'm sure i'm gonna jump to this adventure and become an ea82 owner. i thought that even if the trans will die,i can replace it with manual one.about 120 $.(not including pedals, clutch etc.) i'd like to "suffer" like you guys. i'm about to buy:1986 SUBARU LEONE(LOYALE) GL STATION WAGON 1.8L (EA-82) 2WD A/T METALLIC BROWN. i'll buy it next week. promise to post pics. david.
