January 7, 200719 yr One day I started my car and it sputtered to a start, just barely loping along. It drove fine afterwards, but I noticed a lot of white smoke from the back, presumably extra fuel. It smelled really gassy. I got to a schucks later and read the ecu ccode for a bad coolant temp sensor, replaced it and all was well. That was months ago, and today it did the same thing. It does this just in the few seconds when it's firing up. It seems to run fine afterwards. So now I'm wondering what sensors controlled the air/fuel mixture on a cold start? I think it may have slight head gasket leak, as I have to fill the coolant reserve every year or so.
January 7, 200719 yr Maybe your idle air control valve is sticky. Basically all the sensors other than O2 sensor are used to determine the amount of fuel to inject in open loop: MAP or MAF, intake air temp, throttle position, engine coolant temp, etc.
January 7, 200719 yr ever since my Accident with a light pole, mine has been doing the samething.. but no check engine lights
January 8, 200719 yr White smoke is water condenstaion, which is normal. As long as it fires right up your fine. Brown or black smoke is rich fuel. The only sensor that determins cold start parimeters is the ECU temp sensor. nipper
