No Spark Still...

Featured Replies

EA82 (1986) just did an engine swap and theres no spark. i dont have a volt meter. the battery was drained?? whats goin on:confused: [all was fixed] thanx..........

but now when i give it gas the rpms wont go back down. if i gas it till 4k it atays there??? will a intake leak do this? (please respond the repair manual is lookin rather empty)

You are going to need a test light at least so you can make sure that voltage is getting to the coil and there are pulses on the minus side of the coil. By having the correct troubleshooting tools it will reduce the time it takes to locate the trouble area.

If you are having a problem with the battery draining then you need to check the current draw with everything off. If you have over 85 milliamps of current draw then you need to check for a problem.

I don't follow your last statements. It sounds like the engine is running in those comments.

timing WAS off but it is fixed now. the only problem is the high idle... if i give it gas it revs up and wont go back down:confused: my guess is intake leak but i thought it had the oppisite affect, like bogging. its Carb'd not FI

It should idle high till it warms up.... check the choke, and the throttle cable routing to make sure they are alright. Make sure the choke has 12v to it.

I would check the carburator to see if anything is sticking when the the throttle is supposed to returned to the idle position. A sticking or bad float may cause the high revs also.

To check for intake leaks you can spray some WD-40 around the intake joints to see if that changes the idle speed or use a hose to listen for leaking air. I think a small intake air leak will cause a faster idle but a large leak will bog the engine down.

heres the thing. one bolt for the intake manifold is broken in he head... so im workin with two bolts on the passenger side. (easy-out broke too! :banghead: ) so its gotta stay that way until i get everything ready for instaling a new head and both head gaskets.

i dont beleive the carb. is acting up. (what a pandoars box)

CRAP! could it be because the engine was set up for an automatic? cause i put a clutch on it.... heavy flywheel....

(im talkin about the rpms not goin back down ofter i give it gas)

Well the only thing that will cause a engine to high rev is to give it fuel and that would mean through the carb I would have to say. Somehow the carb is not cutting the fuel down when the throttle is back to low. Have you checked the butterfly valve position when the throttle is released? A bad float will cause fuel to be poured into the engine.

There is a vaccum hose that goes to the automatic you need to disconnect and plug. That shouldn't be be your high rev issue though, just a footnote. The emmisions sticker under the hood should show the differences between Manual and Automatic. The junction with the circle around it in picture.
