Fuel running down skid plate on an 85 RX

Featured Replies

Haven't been in the car for a good two weeks and I start it up and pull out just now. Everything seems normal except for the trail of drops on the driveway from the car backing out and 3 point turning. Check to see significant, steady droplets streaming off the skid plate by the oil pan. Clear and vaporous. Certainly smells like fuel. Put the car back in the garage and drove another one back to work.

Any suggestions? Leak in a fuel line or hose at the fuel pump maybe? Any suggestions of where to look in the engine bay would be very helpful. I'm still learning about the car and don't fully know my way around the engine compartment yet. I can tell a master cylinder from the intake from the distributor, but small mysterious metal or black boxes tend to escape me.

Thanks again. I assume it's a horribly bad idea to drive with leaking fuel, right? Or can I get it to my mechanic if I can't fix it?

If you can smell the fuel while your iin the car, its most likely in the engine bay. If not, I would assume its in the back at the fuel pump.

I would check the fuel pump and hoses, its in front of the right rear wheel.

If theres no leak there, check the fuel filter up behind the drivers side strut tower. From there you can follow the lines and check them out.

i checked the flexible fuel lines behind the driver side front stut that enter and leave the fuel filter canister and found them leaking fuel. i checked the tubing beneath the collars and then tightened everything down again. all lines remained dry 10 minutes into the car running. thanks for the help and hopefully this will serve someone in the future.

cheers!
