Possible frozen block/cracked EA81

Featured Replies

I was in the middle of my Weber conversion when it suddenly dropped below freezing tempitures. I put a lamp in the motor bay to thaw it out, and keep the freeze off of it. I have a huge crack on the outside, in the front of one head. the freeze also blew out my intake gaskets. There was no water in the oil, and everything else seems to visually be ok. I'm just not sure if my block has been cracked on the inside or outside (beyond my visual check) machine shop sugested to split the block and then pressure check it. I'm wondering if anyone knows where these EA81 blocks typicaly crack when they freeze? and any other adivice about the whole cluster************ is appreciated.

Did you have enough anti-freeze in it?

No, hence the frozen motor. I was definitely unprepaired for the cold weather, as I had taken the old carb. off, no coolant, just water in the motor; and no way of circulating coolant.

Any shared experiences with frozen blocks would be great.

From the testimonials that I have heard on here. CCR makes a hell of an engine.
