90 wagon electrical problem

Featured Replies

my friend has a 90 loyale 2wd auto and so far the only things i see that work are the key in the ignition dinger, and the hazard lights. we've check the voltage at the battery, coil, starter, and ign. switch, switch seemed to be the problem(power at one wire with key off, no power at any wire with key on). tried 3 different ign. switches, no go. replaced the battery cables ends, no go. checked all fuses/fusible links, still no go.

he's been stuck driving his mom's big arse chevy truck, and the gas is killing him, plus he really misses penelope(his soob).

any help or ideas are greatly appreciated

thanks

Mike, start with a test light that you know works.

(or I like to use an old horn - I stuff it in and rags in a plastic coffee can, this way the amount of juice available at a given test point is proportional to the volume the horn makes)

I digress

One lead to the neg. bat terminal other

probe in fusible link box, both sides of the links.

All should show power - both sides.

If good there pull the fuse box down and probe there,

it's a larger dia. white wire (this feeds the main components, another black with white is also a feed wire.)

Then the fuses these wires feed.

If you get this far the big connection to the ignition switch may

be the culprit.

Hope this helps some.

Start at the fusible links. Verify power to the links and then through each link. Then move up to the fuse panel. Verify current flow through all the fuses. Some will be hot with key OFF and others with key in ACC position.

I don't understand how you can have current at the ign sw with the key in the OFF position and no curent with key in the ON position.
