idle problem, Need help

Featured Replies

I have a 85 GL Turbo 4X4 that has a idle problem when you first start the car every single time. After that when driving everything is fine. Just the very first start of the car it will idle fine but when you step on the gas to let the idle go down, the car wants to die.

any help would be great.

Vo

sounds exactly like my car..

your choke could be messed up, and the Fast idle on EA82s go out. check both

It's a TURBO, no choke;)

Check all your vacume lines, on my turbo, if I blow off a vac. line the idle drops to about 700RPM(norm is 850-900). If that is not the problem, U can turn up the idle @ the AFM with the little screw.

There are a couple of things that contribute to proper cold Idle. The Aux Air valve is up front, mounted on top of the t-stat housing. Make sure it hasn't gotten disconnected, or the wiring to it isn't broken(that has happened to me a couple of times.

But more likely is that the fast idle solenoid needs to be adjusted, possibly repaired/replaced. Its located on the back of the throttle body and has a little adjustment screw on the bottom..

Does your idle drop when the AC is turned on?.. the fast idle solenoid also compensates for that.. so that would be one way to check.
