Ive called around for a t-case from a 720 nissan pickup. The question is which trans, long or short, and what t-case, I geuss there are different types. Any help would be appreciated. By the way im doin a 6" lift, sub rear up front and t-case if I can figure out which one I need.

The divorced transfer case from an 80-85 datsun/nissan 720 4x4 is required, along with the intermediate, and front/rear driveshafts. You might also want the tcase mount to adapt in or use as a guide. Other choices are the lada niva ft4wd tcase, and the suzuki case. Heres an earlier thread outlining the different transfer cases:

How tough? Much tougher than doing a standard subframe lift. In addition to making the 8"+ subframe/strut lift blocks, you have to incorporate custom motor mount brackets, brackets to hold a rear diff up front, and a mount for the tcase, which involves running tube from the front blocks to the rear in order to make a solid may of mounting the case. I chose to weld the square tubing on the inside of the unibody (through the floorboards).

 

Another thing I'd like to add is that if you build a 6+" lift and don't want to go with the tcase initially, you can do the tcase conversion later without redoing all your blocks, you just have to add the brackets to lift the motor back to stock height relative to the body, and mount the diff/tcase.

try this out...

there's different flange sizes on different tcases, but they are essentially all the same. just make sure you get the drivelines, so that you can have custom ones made mixing the subaru to nissan. your going to have to do that anyway.

yeah, I know, I've seen lots of stuff about it and know where to look, just though it wasnt quite right to tell a new guy to search and then give him a link there are no results from searching

thanks for all the info guys. its alot of help and ive read all those but everyone that ive talked t said that the king cab and the standard have different t-cases length wise. i dont remember exactly the lengths they told me, but that is all i was tryin to find out. anyone seen the pics of what ive got yet? check them out and let me know! thanks again guys. much appreciated, Roy:headbang:

I dont think length is going to matter. You will need to massage the tranny tunnel and have a driveline made to fit either way.

Ive actually worked at a Nissan dealership since before the 720 days. Im racking my brain trying to remember the transfer case differences. One thing Im sure of, is King Cab vs. std. cab made no difference. The driveshaft lengths made up the difference. There were long and short transmission tailshafts, with the newer 720s using the short version. Im guessing that change was made in mid- 83(?) when the updated 720 became a NISSAN instead of a Datsun. Im not going to bet my life on it, but I think any 80-86 720 transfer case would be nearly the same and work for your purposes. 86 1/2 was the big change, no more seperate transfer.
