i have a 92 loyale auto, its a 2wd version, the care is in perfect shape , interior and exterior, i want to convert it to awd, so besides the trans , shafts ,rear dif ,and axle,brakes ,hubs etc, do i need to change the ecm computer, or any other wiring, anyone have any expirence on this conversion

However, I'd think it would be alot easier to convert it to 4 wheel drive instead of all wheel drive -- just easier to find the 4 wheel drive transmissions for the EA82. If you've got an RX tranny go ahead though.

 

I think that you have to weld on the hanger for the center carrier bearing, but no changes to the ECM or wiring. Hmmmm. Except you have the automatic now? There might be some other changes involved in going from the automatic to manual tranny. I don't know about that.

the doner car does have the ecm, are all the stock loyale cars awd instead of 4x4, i know they dont have the hi/low speed xfer case, does that mean their awd ?, not sure i want to weld the gears for full time 4x4 lock.

i want this for a daily driver, I live 4 miles from pavement, i need 4 wheel drive and a little ground clearence to get to the main hiway. ill have bolth cars side by side, should make it easier...

Loyales are part time single range four wheel drive. Even though its only got 4hi my Loyale has taken me up hills where I'm actually climbing over rocks (oops! dented floor boards) or through dust pits where the dust goes all the way up to and a little past the bottom of the doors. Of course I was in first and had the gas almost to the floor but it made it. Dual range would be nice if you can find it.

my 96 legacy does great in the snow... awd .its just too low to the ground

I'd spring for a dual range 4x4 tranny -- should be all you need in addition to the donor car you have. You can ram through lots of stuff by just flooring it, but the low range sure helps, especially if you want to put larger tires on it. Shouldn't be more than $100 to get a tranny (last one I got was free, and I may have another extra whole donor car coming with another one, but shipping its probably out of the question -- darn thing is HEAVY)

 

Yes, stock loyales are part time 4wd, not awd.

I installed a d/r 5spd tranny in my 93. Not much of a hassle.
