'99 Forester Spedo problem

The spedo always registers 42 mph when in motion. We have had it register correctly when on the Freeway, but around town 42. I have done some reading and think it may be the unit in the dash as the odometer is working correctly. This is a 2.5l with Automatic, AWD. Any Thoughts?

yes, this year is known for having bad spedos.

Pull the dash and remove one speedo mounting screw at a time. Clean the screw and the mount and put it back in. If this does not fix the problem, I have a good 99 gauge cluster FS. Lmdew@hotmail.com
