November 25, 200322 yr Oil pump is leaking on my '86 Brat. This is quite common I guess as all my other high mileage Soobs did this. Can I get away with using the old pump and just replacing the gasket or seals? What kind of gaskets or seals will I need? Thanks
November 25, 200322 yr you can just get the "mickey mouse o'ring" and be just fine. you can get a whole kit, which comes with the mickey mouse, a round o-ring, and a shaft seal. bumps themselves dont generally go bad, bieng a trichoidial design. very simple and not complex
November 25, 200322 yr I went to regasket the pump of suby1.The pump came of in pieces!Had to buy a new one.I think a rock had hit it.Anyways just a heads up if it is your daily driver.
November 25, 200322 yr the ea81 doesnt realy have the mickey mouse oring, like the ea 82s. i just resealed my ea81 this weekend with a kit from partsbin.com. they call it an oil relseal kit. 9bucks 5 orings, one paper gasket and about 45 minutes to get the damn paper gasket off.
November 25, 200322 yr ok, i assumed ea82. while ea82 pumps are t-belt driven, ea81 pumps drive from the cam , from the inside
November 25, 200322 yr yah, thats why its easy as hell, and worth doing, on an ea81. i just let my ea82s leak:drunk:
November 26, 200322 yr Author SO this is easy to do? Will I have to remove the radiator to make more room or will I have enough if I leave it in? Any other tricks or is this a simple take off, clean, reseal job? Thanks
November 26, 200322 yr Go ahead and pull the radiator - it's just two bolts, and the hoses. And the electrical connector for your fan(s). Good time for a coolant flush and hose check if nothing else. EA81's are sooo easy to work on. GD
