Just to let anyone who's interested, we've got a thread going over in the transplant forum, on putting a VW diesel engine in an EA82. There seem to be three or four of us on this board pursuing this, and with luck (and time and money -- the limiting reagents for most projects ), at least one of them will be one the road by the end of this year. We'll post pictures and narrative as we go, so stay tuned if you're interested.

Why Volkswagen (VW)? Their engines are far beyond the competition in any technical regards... If you want a Diesel engine, then take Mitsubishi, Toyota, Peugeot or Renault but not that german crap!

If I had my choice on a diesel to throw into a ea82 chassis it would be the one built by toyota that they put in the 4wd trucks in the mid 80's.Not common in the usa but it is a stout engine.I guess the vw wouldn't be all that bad if you gotta go diesel and you know that engine pretty well.
