November 27, 200322 yr I would like to know if reduction ratios in D/R gearbox (88 wagon) depends on what kind of gearbox it is (normal -1.59; ft4wd - 1.19) or if it is turboed (turbo - 1.19; N/A - 1.59). Mine is turbo AND ft4wd so I have awsome 1.19 but I want to change it so I need to know what should I look for to get 1.59.... Piotr
November 28, 200322 yr the RX full time dual range 5spd has a taller gear, dont know what it is off hand but its taller than 4wd part time 5spds. somewhere there isd a chart, browse the search for "ratio"
November 28, 200322 yr Author Sure - I will change rear diff if necessary. The point is I need to know what should I look for - non turbo wagon or non FT4wd wagon to get 1.59 ratio..... Piotr
November 28, 200322 yr look for any 5spd dual range. the 5spd never came with the turbo, and autos dont have low range the 5spd has the lowest gear reduction, and 3.9 final drive the 85-86 i think have the lowest reduction gear...
November 28, 200322 yr I believe Donald missed a word. He says'the 5spd never came with the turbo" What he should have said is it never came with a dual range 5 speed, except in the RX which was really a 10 speed as it can be shifted high to low range at any speed. But the low is not as low as it is in a dual range, only about a half gear, this designed more for rallying than for off road
November 28, 200322 yr yeah, i was referring to the dual range. the exception is the dual range RX trans, 3.7 full-time, but that would be referred to as the RX trans. then there are 5spd pushbutton, single range, both turbo and non turbo so 5spd dual range refers to all the 3.9 that did not come with a turbo
