I Have An 89 Gl With A 1.8 Fi

I Have No Spark, I Changed The Ignition Coil And Distributor, I Have Power To Both Sides Of My Coil But Still No Spark.

I Have No Idea What Else It Could Be, All Fuses And Links Work, Timing Is Correct, I Have Two Mechanics And Myself Stumped, Please Help!!!!!

I would reccomend checking the coil bracket. The bracket has a transistor on the bottom of it (called "ignition impulse amplifier") that can go bad. Also, the bracket itself serves as a ground, so make sure it's tight and clean. Otherwise, we're probably talking ECU issues. Hope this helps!

yup, sounds like the ignition amplifier - had one go bad on my car a couple of years ago (also an 89 SPFI) - took a while to figure it out. didnt kill the spark completely, but it was very weak.

swapped out the bracket - made sure it was grounded good - had to tap out the mounting hole and put in a slightly larger bolt, old one was loose - and it fired up no problem.

a special thanks goes to Skip for all the help he gave me while trying to diagnose the problem. ;)

Have you taken the disty cap off and verified that the rotor is connected well and turns when the engine is cranked? If it doesn't turn you've got a broken belt. Won't spark becasue the disty won't turn.
