June 2, 200718 yr OK, today we are doing a tune up on my daughters 1980 Wagon. I bought NGK plugs, have already put an ACCELL coil on it, and she is getting my MSD 8.5mm wires. I looked in the manual for the gap on the plugs, it listed .035 as max, I plan to start at .040", then go from there to see milage improves. Any other ideas are welcome. Also going to run some engine flush and then change the oil today. Might even get to the tranny and rear end. The car was parked for 10 years at least, and when we got gas to the carb, she started right up.
June 2, 200718 yr +1 on the perf. coil being a bad idea....(at least the silver ones) Virtually no improvement over stock, and much less reliable. Would LOVE to see pics when you get 'er all done too!
June 2, 200718 yr ++1 bad idea on the accel. I had one crap out on me. Never doing anything but a stock coil now. Plus there is no benifit to it.
June 3, 200718 yr Author Here is a pic of it before any work. There are 4 wagon wheels, and they are now black. The rust has not been touched yet. The hood had to be replaced because it had rusted out on the driver side. Other than that, she looks the same. My daughter wants to paint it desert camo. It even has the center head light.
