  1. I have not been here in a while but, it was th first place I thought of that might be able to help. My '02 Forester started running very rough, no power, will not idle. In last month I have changed the fuel filter, timing belts and pulleys, plugs and wires. In the last year, changed all wheel bearings and alternator. Limped the car home, used a 1/4 tank to get 30 miles, cat was cherry red. Have never messed with the cat on any car I have ever owned. Have not put a code reader on it yet, one is on the way. The car has 226k and until then ran like a top. I think the cat is bad, and have started pricing, just wanted to check here first. Thanks.
  2. Belt will be replaced soon, early summer. I know there is about 50K on it now. Thanks for the input.
  3. I bought a 2002 Forester back in December. I have been driving it to work every day with no problems. The belts in one of the tires separated, and I had to get all new. No big deal, just had to do it earlier that expected. After that the car vibrated during acceleration. I had the tires re balanced, did not fix the problem. I dug out the Hayne's manual and it said the CV shafts could be doing it. I replaced the driver's side shaft and that seems to have fixed it. My question is, if the vibe comes back, what do I look at next? Maybe the rear shafts? The car has 195XXX and seems to have no other real issues. Any ideas? thanks for the help, as always.
  4. Thanks. I replaced the passenger front CV shaft today. Was a little different than the 87 GL. I noticed that all of the parts were factory. Now I have a list of things to do this spring and summer. I think the shafts were even factory.
  5. OK, I have not been here for awhile. My 87 GL gave up the ghost, and I have been driving other cars. I bought a 2002 Forester last week. Everything works, heated seats and all. I really like this wagon. I will have to put new tires on it soon. Does anyone know how big of a tire will fit without a lift? I like the ride but, want a little more room under it.
  6. It is carbed and parked outside. I have not used starting fluid. I use 10-w30 oil. The heater i use is only 200 watt. It stays parked outside while at work as well.
  7. My car is a 1987 GL Wagon. I have not had trouble before this year. I have a heater on the oil pan but, it doesn't seem to be helping. It could also be that the engine really needs an overhaul. I plan to do that in the spring, just need the car running now because of the weather. More snow in Oklahoma this year than in a number of years. The Nissan pickup does no good in the snow and ice.
  8. I am having a hard time getting the Subie started when it is cold outside. Please tell me how you keep the engine warm. I have a magnetic heater on the oil pan but, it doesn't seem to help, still very hard to start when it is cold outside.
  9. I managed to mess up the float adjustment. When I pulled it back apart and readjusted the float, it worked perfectly. Now I save up and buy a Weber.
  10. I had to take the top of off the carb today. After i put itback together it will not start. After i let go of the key I can see gas shoot back out the top of the carb. I pulled it off the car and pulled it apart again. I put it back together and reinstalled it. Nothing changed. Gas shoots out the top of the carb when you quit turning the key, and it will not start. I think it is flooding but, cant figure out why. Please help.
  11. Finally got the wagon legal again. Had insurance 2 weeks ago but, had bad weather come in and all the tag offices closed because of it. I got it today, and it is great to have it back on the road. Especially since had a lot of snow come in and cover the whole area. My Nissan pickup is crap on ice and snow, the Soobie acts like I am driving on dry pavement.
  12. Iwant to get another engine for my wagon. I can rebuildthe one that i have but, I am looking for a spare engine. I am asking if anyone has one forsale, I am very interested. I am looking for an EA82, non turbo, carbed. Thanks in advance.
  13. I have been away for awhile. I am back again and loving it. I parked the wagon for a while but, now I am going to bring her back. I put reman rear calipers on her this last weekend, next is to rebuild the carb. It is a Hitachi, and it sucks but, I can't get weber to sell me one of their carbs. So I am going to make due with what I have. I will probably rebuild the engine this spring. I have a spark plug stuck in the number 1 hole, I will be looking for a set of heads for and EA82. Most stuff I can get from Rock Auto, the rest I will be asking here. Again, very glad to be back, should never have left.
  14. I am going to rebuild the engine for my 1987 GL. I am replacing the Hitachi carb. Does anyone have a list of what carbs will interchange? I would like a better carb for my wagon. I tried to order one from Weber, they would not return my phone call. Any info is good. Thanks.
  15. I have decided to rebuild the Wagon. I have to replace pretty much the whole front end, it is worn out. I am going top rebuild the engine, and replace the hitachi while I am at it. I would like to know if anyone knows which carbs from what companies will fit the EA82 engine. I know that Weber makes a nice one but, I can't even get them to answer the phone when I call. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  16. My 87 GL has a minor problem. Sometimes the blower will not start when you turn it on. I am sure that the problem is in the relays. I know there are 4 of them under the dash but, the question is which one? If anyone knows, Please help.
  17. SHE RUN'S!!! The back story is as follows: My Wagon quit me almost a year ago. Got off of work, and she refused to start. Had to pull her start her to get home. Changed the starter after I got home, that did not fix it. Let it set mostly untouched for almost a year. Started driving a Nissan pickup. That lasted for about 2 or 3 months. Then I got my Suburban going and started driving it. On Wednesday night, I blew a head gasket on the Chevy, then drove it 12 to 15 miles to get home. It made it. Now the only vehicle I have that could be relied upon to get me around is the Wagon. Finally got her running tonight. Had to pull and rebuild the carb. She runs great now. Now all I have to do is pull the radio out of the Chevy and get it mounted back in the Wagon. Thanks for the info, this place still rocks.
  18. OK, the engine turns over now. It has gas and spark, I can even feel it suck air over the carb. It will not start, it tries but, not very hard. I thought it was the old gas in the tank. I put new gas straight into the carb, and it still won't start. I will put new plugs in when the sun comes up. I am open to any other ideas.
  19. Thank you, I will start this morning.
  20. OK, it has been a while since I posted on here. I am having trouble with my 87 wagon. The starting circuit has given up the ghost. I know how to put the relay on the car but, I don't know the color of the ignition wire coming from the switch. Please help. Thanks.
  21. I bought a new HAM radio with a removable face plate to put in my Brat. I can mount the radio under the seat and the face on the dash. I picked the radio out especially for my Brat.
  22. I have had no problems with 90's 14" Nissan wheels.
  23. OK tonight I start the swap between my Wagon and my Brat. The Wagon quit about a month and a half ago, the start circuit went out. I know it is easy to fix, but I am looking at it like a sign. The front end was also starting to make noise. I have read that the tranny from a 1987 EA82 will bolt up to a 1984 EA81. I want to use the engine from the Brat because it is very tight, and there is a Weber already installed on it. The EA82 is tired, and I plan to go through it later. I will be installing rear disk brakes on the Brat, along with 14" Nissan wheels. I will be changing everything over from my 1987 Wagon to the Brat. The tranny went out in the Brat 3 days after I got it on the road. It has the 3AT with push button 4WD HI only. I am installing the tranny out of the Wagon because it is the 4WD D/R. I have read that this is an easy job, just takes a little time. My questions are: Does the fly wheel from an EA82 bolt right up the EA81? Is the drive shaft from the Brat going to fit on the new rear end and tranny? (the shaft from the Wagon has a carrier bearing, the Brat shaft does not) I appreciate any and all answers. Thanks in advance. I will be posting pics of the work.
