  1. The tranny in the Brat went out. I plan to install at least a 4 Sp D/R in it but, that will be a little while. Does anyone think it might be worth my time to change out th tranny filter? A friend of mine told me that was the problem with his when it went out. I found the filter and pan gasket on RockAuto for $6. Would it be worth the time, or just wait until I get the manual tranny? Thanks guys.
  2. Problem, the blower keeps going off. I replaced the blower motor, and that worked for a week. This morning, it went off in less than 10 miles. Is it the resistor or the relay? I know which one I hope it is but, I am sure it will be the expensive one.
  3. Thanks everyone, that is what I needed to know. I will have to get some on payday.
  4. Does anyone have an opinion of the KYB brand shock absorber? One of my rear shock went out, and the KYB's are the cheapest, and they have the spring seat on them. I have never heard of them. Thanks.
  5. What all do you have mounted in that? I really like the way it looks, and thought it would look good on my 87.
  6. They are all new, and a new pump to go with them. I am going to check the timing again this weekend.
  7. My 87 GL Wagon is idling really rough right now. It is carbed, with a hitachi, 5SP manual, D/R. I just replaced the idler pully and tensioner pulley on the drivers side. There was a miss in firing, I think I fixed it. I have checked the vacuum lines, and haven't found anything. I will look again this weekend. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I plan to replace the engine this summer anyway, just not ready yet.
  8. I know how you feel. I have to replace the tranny in the Brat, and I think the engine in the wagon is starting to go down. I will be pulling the whole wngine and tranny out of the Brat, and doing a complete reseal on the engine while replacing the tranny. I am going to save up and buy one of the CCR engines to put in the wagon, hopefully this summer. Good luck with your project.
  9. I am thinking 4Sp, mainly because I am lazy. I understand that it is just a bolt in replacement. If you are going to get rid ofone, I am definately interested. Thanks.
  10. Never mind. I am now looking for a manual tranny. I want a D/R anyway. Now I have the excuse I need to find one.
  11. Need a new tranny. Mine went out on Saturday. I am now looking for a 4SP D/R Manual. I look forward to seeing everybody.
  12. Fluids are still good. Transaxle and tranny. It makes no noise, does not go into gear. It does not speed up, when it went out, the RPM's went up, just like it was in nuetral.
  13. It does not work in any gear. No movement at all. It acts like it is in nuetral. It gave no indication that it was going out. Disconnected the passing gear switch, nothing changed. There is no noises at all that would tell me what is wrong. Gen.Bart want to know if there is a check valve in the tranny? Thanks guys.
  14. OK, going into town today and the Brat quit. The tranny has no gears. It just sits and does nothing. The only thing that works is Park. I really don't want to mess with it right now but, does anyone have any ideas? I plan to put a 4SP manual into it anyway, just wasn't ready to do it now. Please help. Any ideas or a manual D/R tranny would be good. P.S. All fluids are good, checked them before I left the house. New vacuum modulator.
  15. That is where mine came on the other day. I had about 2 gallons left. Mine is a 1987 GL Wagon.
  16. I drove the Brat to work today. I love the way it drives. Good power and acceleration, actually kept up with traffic. I will have to do some sound deadening, that thing is loud on the hiway. Now we will see what the mileage does. Thanks for all the help guys.
  17. All I can think of is that the wires are in the wrong order. Or that the coil wire is not working.
  18. First, this place really rocks. I have learned more about my cars here than from any manual I have ever read. There is more knowhow here than anywhere else I have been. And I really like to see other people's cars. When my brother gave me the 87 GL, I was lost. I found this place, and have kept it running for 4 years now. I only have about $3500 in it, and that is because I found the USMB. You guys have saved me enough to buy and fix my Brat. Thanks. Whoever put the link to RockAuto up, thanks. They have parts that the local parts houses do not even list. Thanks.
  19. OK, I took the pump apart today to clean it up. I found out that it was broken before I started messing with it. I just finished the job. I will have to order one. This really sucks, I wanted to start driving it.
  20. Pressure was good, about 70psi while driving, 30-40 at idle. I only removed it to change the seals, they were really leaking. It had siezed to the block pretty good, and when it started to come loose, only one side started. Thanks guys.
  21. No, I mean the aluminum plate between the block and the pump housing. I will post pics this weekend.
  22. I pulled the oil pump off of the Brat tonight. The back plate between the pump and the block cracked at the bottom. Where do I get another one? I have not called the local parts houses yet. I started here first. Thanks.
  23. That paint scheme rocks. For some reason it looks familiar. Show the rest of the pics after you get it done.
  24. I agree. I totally love my Brat. I have only driven it 150 miles, and I have to replace the oil pump seals. I like the way it drives and looks. Whle filling the tank for the fisrt drive, there was a guy waiting for me to get back to the Brat after paying for the gas. He was hanging out his window asking where I found it, because he had been looking for one for years. Everyone wants one.
  25. I have the EA82 in the wagon, and the EA81 in the Brat. I am going to at least replace the gaskets in the wagon's engine this year. I am thinking of going to an EA81 in it. I like an engine with no timing belts. I have only had one problem with the wagon but, once on the side of the road is enough. Will the EA81 bolt up to the 5 Sp d/r tranny? That is the only thing that might stop me from doing this. I really like the EA81, easier to work on, simpler engine, no timing belts. I looked on Rockauto for prices, and the EA81 is cheaper there too. I know that I am going back in time mechanically but, I like easy. Any info needed, this is just an idea right now.
