  1. I just got off the phone with the owner of the local JY. He said he just got a 1984 wagon in that had been in a minor accident. Just one of the fenders rolled up. I might get the whole thing as a parts car for the Brat and my daughters 1980 wagon. He hasn't even opened the hood yet, he is waiting until I get there to do it. If any parts are worth anything, I will post them on here to see if anyone needs anything.
  2. Thanks Mike, that makes sense. It is the 3AT.
  3. There is a switch on the gas pedal of the 1984 Brat that I just bought. Does anyone know what it is for? I am no good with electric diagrams.
  4. I like it with the topper. Strictly for the utility. I can store my stuff in the back and it will stay dry. The other two trucks I owned were a 1987 Toyota 2WD and a Chevy Luv 2WD. Neither one had a cap, and I wish they did. At least the topper for the Brat is light enough for 2 people to take off. I like the one that came with mine, it is the high topper. IT all depends on what I you are going to do.
  5. I must be blind, I don't see anything. Then again, I did not get that Bruce Willis was dead in The 6TH Sense until they told me. Have mercy, and tell me.
  6. Tried that, still dead. Thanks for the idea.
  7. cob, I really need one of the wheels. Let me know where you got them and how much they cost. I will have a full size spare on the Brat, just like the wagon, and I would like for them to match. There are none around here that I can find.
  8. I drive a 1987 GL wagon right now, and I would like the Brat to be my daily driver. I have always had trouble fixing starting problems, this is another in a long line of cars. I usually end up changing everything. I will get this fixed. I know that a Subaru is a work in progress, I can live with that. I am just excited to have a Brat, and want to show it off. I can't do that if it never gets out of the driveway.
  9. I cannot get the Brat started. The key will not turn the starter over. I can do the screwdriver to the post trick, and it turns over. The ignition switch was replaced before I got the truck. I am looking for any ideas. Please help. Here is a pic of her topless.
  10. So the 1984 Brat that i just got has hydraulic lifters? That is good news. Thanks.
  11. OK, it only clicks when I turn the key back. I dug out the Haynes manual, and there is a lisy of things to check. That is for tomorrow. I have to drain the gas tank, what's in there is no longer gas, just smells a little like it. At least it is not all solid like the 1980 wagon I got the daughter. I should be able to flush it out with a few gallons of fresh gas and be good. This Brat even has the high center console with arm rest and a cup holder. There are two cubby holes in it to hold all my stuff. I looked for two years for a Brat in my local area, and finally found one. Sorry, the pic is below. I will post more later. P.S. cobcob, thanks for looking for a 5 SP D/R for me. And congrats on the 1982, looks good.
  12. OK, I got it home today. Put a fresh battery in it and all it does is click. I have to find the problem. I am so happy. Cleaned it up, and sprayed the engine off. It is in pretty good shape. I can't wait to get it running. It is a 1984.
  13. Wednesday. He has really bad hours at work, and that is the soonest that I can get it.
  14. OK, got a good look and some pics today. 1983, EA81 with a WEBER carb installed. The body is clean and 99% rust free. A small spot the size of the old silver dollar at the bottom front of the drivers door. The only down side is it had the 3AT with push button 4WD. I really wanted the 5sp with D/R 4WD, but beggars can't be choosers. I get it next Wednesday. Enjoy the pics. P.S. The tires are not flat, they are sunk into the ground up to the wheels.
  15. I pick it up next Wednesday. It has a clear title and his niece is a Notary. I can't wait, I have been looking for one locally for 2 years.
  16. That really rocks. I will be getting mine next Wednesday. We got the same wheels!
  17. I talked to the owner today, and forgot to get the year from him. He said it tried to overheat when he started it. That is why it was parked. It has been parked for 5 years. He wants $500 for it, and I might be able to get it this weekend. I like the price, and understand what is involved in this. The wagon I am driving now was parked for 3 or 4 years, and it gets me to work and home every day. It also has the "H" style factory aluminum wheels. So, am I getting the short end or do I go for it?
  18. I found a BRAT today. I am not sure of the year, 1981 to 1983. It is black, with a topper. It has the "H" style factory aluminum wheels, and they are still shiny. I could not find any rust but, I only looked at it foe about 5 minutes. The interior is in good shape, no tears in the seats. The carpet looked good, some stains, no tears. What should I offer for it? My hope is that the guy doesn't know what he has, and lets it go cheap. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.
  19. Axles are the easiest thing that I have done on my wagon. The hardest part is remembering to break the nut loose before you jack the car up. After that, it is no more than an hour per side. Good luck.
  20. Every now and then, it makes a lot of lifter noise. Not often, but, when it does, it is loud and goes on for miles. I can even hear it on the highway.
  21. How often do I need to change the oil pump? I have read on here but, I don't remember. Mine was put on at 157K, now I am at 219K. Thanks.
  22. Got it. Found the wire harness that the old pump was hooked to, and hooked the new one up to it.
  23. I thought it would have power while the key was on run. My 1987 is set up like that.
  24. OK, I am having trouble with the daughter's car. When we brought it home, I knew there would be minor probs. I had to replace and hook up the fuel pump, and I can't find where the power wires hooked up. The pump that was in it was an after market, and not hooked up anyway. I have tore my Hayne's manual apart looking for this stuff, and I can't find it. Does anyone know where to hook the wires up? Please help. The car is a 1980 GL with the EA71 1.6L engine, single range 4WD and a 4 Speed manual wagon.
  25. I got this from the local dealership in the mail today. I could not believe it at first. I called them and asked if there was an age limit, they said they did not care if I brought a 1979 Brat in, they coupons were valid as long it was a Subaru. This is too cool.
