  1. Thanks. That si what I wanted.
  2. Does anyone still have the web site that had the new 15" wheels for sale? Also, will I have to cut the fenders to fit the 15" wheels and tires. I am going for a standard type onroad tire.
  3. I saw an old early 80's Subaru wagon on the Sci Fi channel movie Atomic Train. You can see it when they are evacuating Denver, it was clean and had the twin square headlights. I really liked it.
  4. I pulled the carb off, cleaned it, now it runs again. The carb had some dirt in the bowl, blew that out, cleaned all holes and passages, it works like a new one. Thanks to everyone here for thier help, you guys rock!!
  5. I found a 2WD Wagon today. It is supposed to have a cracked head, I am hoping to hear from the guy soon. The body is in very good shape, no real dents, or rust. I just looked at through the windows and the interior looked good. I think that it is a 1986-1989. It just has Subaru on the side, not marked as a Loyale so I think it is from the '80's.
  6. I went to the JY today. I got a disty for the pickup coil. One of the wires looked like it was mouse chewed, almost half way through. I also picked up another carb. This is where my question comes in, how do I use one with a 4 wire plug on a car with a 3 wire plug? I think that the carb I bought through O'Reilly's had the 4 wire plug but, I used the 3 wire plug from my old one. Where do I get a 3 wire plug? Does anyone have one? Now the car turns over but does not start, will not even try to catch. The one I bought from the parts store had an adjustment for the jet, the one from the JY does not. I ordered two carb rebuild kits from the parts store, I will do a rebuild and wee what I get. I know that this is going to be something simple, I just won't know until I get it all done.
  7. Okay, I regapped my plugs to .045. Car started up and ran perfectly for about a minute. Then it started loping and smoking, and then died. I restarted it and had to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it running, it smoked the whole time. I am going to get the ignition module tested to see if that is the problem.
  8. EA82, carbed, no turbo, manual D/R tranny. 1987 GL Wagon. Sorry, I always forget that.
  9. Tank is full. Pump working great. Replaced Accel coil with MSD coil, car started right up, then died 1 minute later, after getting rougher and rougher idle. I looked at the rotor while a friend turned the engine over, and it spins like it should. I try to start it now, and it wants to start, just won't quite make it. Any more ideas?
  10. Last weekend I opened the gap on my plugs to .050", today I think my Accel coil gave up on me. I got off of the hiway and it died. I had to push it out of the way of traffic. I had a friend pull me home. When I checked the troubleshooting section of the Haynes manual, one of the things that it listed was the coil. I ordered an MSD from the local parts house for $40. I looked for the write-up on here about coils and couldn't find it. The other thing that was listed that I haven't done yet is the timing belts. When I had them off last year they were in good shape. I hope that the coil fixes it. Any ideas?
  11. I fixed to Soobie. The dealer could not get the relay, the computer listed none ina any warehouse that he could find. I came home and put a jumper on the hot and the ground side and my fuel pump works like a new one. I looked in the local JY and there wasn't one on any of the Subs there.
  12. I talked to the mechanic at the dealership about my fuel pump problem. He told me that there was a relay under the dash somewhere. I traced the wire from the pump wire back up through the harness under the dash, and found the relay. There are some part numbers on it that the parts houses do not list. They are here:2263IAA080 and K8T65073. Any one know what these numbers cross to? I really need this.
  13. Sorry, 5 speed, carbed, D/R, EA82, 1987 GL Wagon. I can't find a second fuel filter under the hood. I am going to check the fuel pump tonight.
  14. First, some history. I did a complete tune-up about two months ago. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, exhaust, had cats removed, they were plugged. Saturday, I while driving, when I hit 3rd gear there was a small sputter, it went away after the engine warmed up. today on the way home from work it sputtered very bad when i hit 4K in 3rd, and again when I hit 3K in 4th. I tried to get through it but, it only got worse. It only does this when in 3rd or 4th gear, the other three are absolutely perfect. I have run out of ideas, and I really need some help. Please.
  15. I tried some Slick 50 gas path cleaner. It doesn't do anything like the oil treatment, just cleans the system. My car runs better now that it has since I brought it home. It idles smooth, and is very quiet. It cost $10 a bottle but, you only use it when you do an oil change, mainly because it is easier to remember. I am very impressed with it.
  16. I replaced mine 2 weeks ago. The drivers side took about an hour. I completely removed the lower arm, then hammered the ball joint out. The passenger side kicked my a$$. It would not come off. I loosened everything enough to get it lined up then it finally went back together. It was worth it, the ride is better, and steering is tighter.
  17. OK, the mileage came up a little more. I put a bottle of STP gas treatment in this morning and that seems to have helped. It doesn't die when I push the clutch in, now it die when I make a right turn in neutral or with the ckutch pushed. Never to the left, just the right. The filter was replaced less than 2000 miles ago.
  18. My mileage finally went up to 24 from 20-21. I was really happy. Now it runs like crap. It starts and dies, the second time it starts and stays running. I rarely let it warm up completely, I just let it idle foar a couple of minutes and then drive off. It started dying when I was slowing down and took foot off of the gas pedal. It idles rough when it idles. Anyone have any ideas? Please Help.
  19. I looked at the DL Hatchback yesterday. It isn't in bad shape overall. The dash is cracked pretty bad, and the seats are a little rough but, no big tears, a set of seat covers would fix them. It has the EA71 engine with a 5 speed manual. I looked in the engine bay and it looks OK. A little dirty, with some spider webs but, I didn't see any major oil leaks. The passenger side drive shaft boot is torn. The car has been parked for a little over two years. The drivers side door has some rust issues, the whole bottom outer edge is gone. My question is who has doors for a 1980 or 1981 DL? What should I offer for this car? I really need some help. Is it worth buying?
  20. I have not read anyone asking about this yet. I cannot get my heater slider to keep from sticking. When you go to work it for warmer air, the two pieces that interlock with teeth, slip past each other. I put it back together around once a week. It isn't hard to do, just very annoying. Anyone have an idea that will keep them together?
  21. I looked at my carb today. The back barrel was not working. I checked, and the linkage was hitting the intake manifold. I took it off and cut the piece off that was hitting the manifold. I drove it, and it seems to be more responsive. I will find out for sure tomorrow on the way to work. There is a hill that always brings the speed down 10 MPH. Hopefully this will work.
  22. I just found a 1980 or 81 Subaru DL hatchback. It has been parked for a little over 2 years. The guy said the tranny was giving him trouble. He also said that it might just need fluid. I am going to look around and see what a tranny and engine go for. Any one know any thing about these? 2WD, i don't know if it is auto or man.
  23. I put the carb on last May. It was bought new/rebuilt from O'reilly's. I have adjusted the jet and it doesn't help the mileage. I also have a vacuum leak that I cannot find, and it is pissing me off. The car is a 1987 GL, 5man, d/r, It really runs a lot better now, just can't get the mileage thing nailed down.
  24. It runs a little smoother than before. It seems to have enough power. I have owned other small engine cars, and they seem to be about the same. I just can't figure out the mileage.
