  1. Okay, I bought another wagon. It is a 1980, with the middle headlight. I believe it has the EA81 engine, I know it is not an EA 82, that is what is in my 1987. According to the paperwork in the car, it is the GL model. The guy told me that the gas line had become varnished, and that I can fix easily. The ignition switch is also messed up, so if anyone has any ideas, I will gladly listen. The car has a couple of small rust spots, doesn't look too bad, should be easy to fix, there is a little bit of black spotting on the paint, that should rub out fairly easy. If there is anything special that I need to know about the new car, please let me know. I have had my '87 for two years now, so I am not a virgin any more. Thank you in advance.
  2. I am getting 22 to 23 MPG. I have a Hitachi carb. Does anyone have the part number to order a Weber? I would love to put one on my EA82. I also want to know if anyone has any 14" wheels for sale, I am doing that sometime this summer. I have decided that I am not going to lift this car, I am just going to put bigger tires, it is a daily driver.
  3. I just put a new stereo in my 87 GL wagon. I went with a Sony Xplod cd player, with 3 way Pioneer 180 watt speakers in the back and Pioneer 130 watt speakers in the front. The back door panels had to be opened up for the speaker to fit, the front I left behind the factory grill. I rewired all 4 speakers right to the stereo unit, and it sounds great. I just wish I had read the boards before I started, it would have saved me some time. The front speakers are mounted on the brackets that move them out so the windows will roll down. I am still thinking about some 6x9's in the rear door.
  4. Thank you so much. I found the ASV, and put a quarter under each side, now I can hear while shifting. that was the best fifty cents I ever spent.
  5. Thank you. I just have one question, where is the Air Suction Valve located?
  6. Does anyone know how important the anti-backfire valve is? Mine was leaking when I got the car, so I pulled it off and blocked off the EGR valve at the intake manifold. It is a 1987 GL wagon, EA82, carbed, 5Sp D/R 4WD. I am fixing and replacing all gaskets and seals as I find them. I found a leak under the intake manifold this weekend, new gaskets cost $3. One of the bolts broke off in the head. It took 3 hours to pull the bolt out without messing up the head. I have been doing all the repairs to get rid of a backfire. Everything I have done has not fixed it. The backfire has dropped a lot but, it still pops pretty good when I am getting on the hiway and get the RPM's up there. Any help would be very nice. I am at my whits end.
  7. I started running my Sub up to 5K and the seal on the driver's side cam walked out of its groove. It had completely hardened and was going to come out anyway. I keep it at 4K now, I hope that it lasts at least another 30K.
  8. 1987 GL Wagon, 187,850 miles. The original motor as far as I know. I was given the car by my Brother. I love it!
  9. I got the Soobie done on Sunday. Changed the front and rear main seals, the cam shaft seals, the pan gasket, and the valve cover gaskets. Put the engine back in, hooked everything up, and it started right up. Milage fell through the floor, and it backfired between every shift. I checked the timing, and it was off, the passanger side was aff 2 teeth, and the driver side was off 1 tooth. I fixed that and it seems to have fixed it. I will watch the milage to make sure. I was proud of myself for getting it right the first time, now it is the second time.
  10. Changed front and rear main seals. Pulled broken timing belt covers off. Changed pan gasket. Pulled cam pulleys, and found which seal was dead. The driver side gasket was completely out of its groove. The parts store has them but, I messed up when I put the rear main, and have to buy another new one. It is a 1987 GL wagon, EA82, carbed, 5sp, D/R. I really like this car. I know I could have done most of the work in the car but, I wanted to remove it for ease of maintanence.
  11. I blew a seal this week. I am not sure what day. I will be pulling the engine this weekend and replacing all the seals and gaskets. I have the pan gasket and valve cover gaskets and grommets. I have the front and rear main seals on order, they will be here tomorrow. What other gaskets and/or seals do I need to replace while I have the engine out? I thank all of you in advance.
  12. I want to thank you for this. I just haven't had the money to buy it off of E-Bay yet. Now I don't have too. Thank you so much.
  13. My 87 non turbo wagonhas the same problem. I ended up wiring around the relay, just a short jumper around the relay and a short jumper near the pump from the ground wire to the body. I soldered them both in place and put some heat shrink tubing on them. It runs fine now. The relay is supposed to turn off the pump after ten seconds if the engine isn't started. Mine quit turning the pump on at all. I went to the dealership, and they didn't find one in any of their warehouses anywhere. They told me to do the fix that I did. Try it, I think that it will work, it did for me.

    How much lift?

I am coming to the realization that I need bigger tires. How big can I go without a lift kit? I can do the work myself if and when it comes to the lift. I want to put some bigger more aggressive tires on the car for when the weather gets bad. I might even just keep them as spares for when I need them and not on the car all the time. I don't want LARGE off road mudders, I just want more tire than 13", and more aggressive tread than standard light vehicle tread. I can't wait to see what is written.
  15. My 87 GL wagon is carbed, and the exhaust has been redone from the Y back, no duct for the heat hose to the breather. Yesterday and today it was down to 7 degrees F, and the car ran great. I just wish there hadn't been so much ice, not nearly as much fun as snow.
  16. I found a 1980 Wagon. It has the cyclops light in the grill, is 4WD, not D/R. It has what look like good condition wagon wheels. The guy wants $100 for it, I will be going back on payday to pick it up. Just wanted to gloat.
  17. Thanks guys, that is what I needed.
  18. Does anyone know what front seats from what models will fit in my 87 GL Wagon? I need to replace them, they are getting worn out. I would also like to find some good wheels. I have one that the bead is shot on, and it leaks all the time, just very slowly. Any help will be welcome.
  19. My brother put one on my 87GL 4 or 5 months before he gave me the car. I have been driving the car for a year and a half with no electrical problems. You do need to get the lifetime gaurantee.
  20. Please post some pics, I would like to do this to my carbed wagon.
  21. I remember seeing a home made roof rack on some one's wagon. I want to build one for mine and can't find the pics anywhere. If anyone knows who built it, or can help with some ideas, please let me know.
  22. I have a spare carb, the air adjustment jet is not adjusted with a screw driver. It is adjusted, I don't know how, and the carb body holds it is place. I took the carb apart to find out how every thing goes together. I like that the air jet doesn't move once you get it adjusted, I am just lost on how to adjust it. Any help from any one would be greatly appreciated.
  23. according to what is on the box that came with my carb kit from O'Reilly's auto parts the number is 151051 and under that number is 10874, the kit is made by Walker. The number on my spare carb is DCZ328-503 and under that is 508. I went the JY and bought another carb for $50. It is fixing to get put in working order because it doesn't have an air adjustment screw. The one on the car does and I am always fiddlin' with it, and I am tired of it. Good luck and I hope this helps.
  24. Congrats. Life is now officially over, you are a DAD. Good luck.
  25. I just got another one from O'rielly's. It has a lifetime warranty. It fits the original bracket, just like the factory model. I only paid $25 for it.
