June 15, 200718 yr I have a 1979 Brat and im not sure whether its an Ea81 or Ea82. Im a little new to brats and im still learning the basics here.
June 15, 200718 yr The engine designation is stamped onto the block near the distributor on the ea71/81. And in the same place on the ea82 but the distributor is on the drivers side head.
June 15, 200718 yr Emily I am sorry to disagree with you but you say " EA71 1.8L OHV engine" I believe the EA71 is a 1.6L not 1.8 in 1979
June 15, 200718 yr Author Thanks, even though it just made the task of working on the engine a little more daunting. :-p
June 16, 200718 yr Emily I am sorry to disagree with youbut you say " EA71 1.8L OHV engine" I believe the EA71 is a 1.6L not 1.8 in 1979 To my knowledge the ea71 was never a 1.8L
June 16, 200718 yr Bratman, I thought what you thought untill I saw this chart. Look at what they call the engine in the Brats on this page. It's wrong for the USDM but... maybe the middle east or or?? Subaru engine application chart I don't know where "RAM Clutches" gets it's info? As I said, maybe it's an overseas varrieant?? Maybe a type-o? Emily knows her stuff, that's why I checked before posting.
June 16, 200718 yr man that seems so wrong for me... maybe thats why whenever i try to get parts for my 86 ea71 hatchback they try to give me ea81 parts 80% of the time; THAT is really frustrating, if not for that I'd be on my way to the beach right now not sitting on the computer at home
June 17, 200718 yr Hold up, Emily. EA71 1.8L? You sure? Can't be. I've never seen anything about a 1.8L engine in 1979 or before. Your frustration is understood scrap, because the only car in 86 that still used the EA71 was the Standard hatch, when every other GenII car was an EA81.
