How easy would it be to swap out the engine in a 99 Forester for a 2003 Forester engine? Both are 2.5L SOHC. Thanks again!

That should be a straight swap. Only thing may be flywheel/flexplate unless they are both the same tranny.

that's a good question. NASIOC might have more answers for that. i haven't seen many post 2002 engine swap threads here. i can't recall any "easy" engine swaps past 2002 so i can't say. i wouldn't be surprised if it's easy, but i don't know when/if they've made any changes from 2003 until now.

The crank sprocket and left cam sprocket will have to be exact matches, or the car won't run.

 

Crank sprocket: 6 teeth or 23 teeth

Cam sprocket: 2 cam sensor pickups or 7 pickups

Well I bought it. I may be begging for help in a couple weeks when I make the swap. I'll post the results when it's all done and I'll try and take some pics of any major issues.
