HELP--93 Legacy Problem

Featured Replies

Hi. We have a 1993 Legacy Sedan L 2 wd...for quite some time now we have been unable to shift the car into gear without depressing a button at the base of the gear shifter. We used to just depress the brake pedal to do this...How can we fix this issue? It is so annoying...Thanks. :)

Sounds like the switch for the shift interlock system is shot. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that's had to replace it so I don't know the method for doing so.

Thanks. We've tried looking in our repair manual but no luck there either...maybe someone will read this and know what we're talking about...appreciate the reply.:)

ok here you go. Its a simple system. You either have a bad relay or solenoid in the system.

YOu should hear a click when you have the car on, foot on the brake, and press the gear shift button. If you dont there lies the problem.

Nipper,

Thank you...can't quite get what you mean though...we definitely do not hear the click anymore but I searched through the posts you hyperlinked for me and I'm not finding a solution...except to take apart the gear shifter assembly around it...it works when we press the button at the base...could something have come apart under the gear shift assembly?
