1988 GL Wagon 5 speed 4x4 1800 OHC non turbo.

I had a switch that controlled the wire coming from the "position" fuse a red wire with white stripe. I never figured out what it was for. Someone suggested the car won't run without a fuse in that slot so the it must be by passed somewhere. Can anyone tell me what it is actually for?

I THINK it's the Crank Angle Sensor in the distributor. Without that, car wont start.

 

Or it could be a Cam/Crankshaft Position Sensor, but I dont know if the EA82 has these sensors or not.

will have a look in my hand book but could it simply be for the marker lights which are called position lights in some countries;)

Or that it could have had air suspension and thats what the fuse controlled.

My '86 wont start... .....when I take out the "position" fuse.

 

My old '88 DL wouldnt start a few years back, I was uninclined back then.. I had it towed and had the mechanic look, it was that silly "position" fuse.

 

Later I'll see if it gives me spark... maybe if it doesnt, it IS the Crank Angle Sensor fuse.. hmmm

It is shown to be for the Parking/position/corner lights. Specifically for the circuit that the parking light switch opertates. I'm not sure at all why the car wouldn't run without that fuse though.
