i_c_the_light Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Because it is. I'll do my best. I'll start off with a VF-7 and VF-10 side by side. Apart from physical size and mounts, the biggest difference is the position/direction of the compressor inlet and outlet. After examining them, I can see that the shiney front part of the compressor is only bolted onto the rest of the turbocharger and I think (well, guess) that it isn't involved with shaft in anyway. So with that in mind, I am wondering if it is possible for me to take off the shiney front part of the compressor of either the VF-7 or VF-10 and rotate so both are the same so that the VF-7 outlet would be facing to the right or the VF-10 outlet would be facing upwards? Would I be able to do without damaging anything? Or does a workshop that specialises in turbochargers have to do it because of some process required? calebz Posted August 13, 2007 Share Posted August 13, 2007 Keep in mind as you are rotating housings. That turbo has an internal wastegate. The actuator is on the housing. may have to come up with a new way to mount the actuator. EDIT: I don't have any of the larger VF series here to look at, I could be wrong. I did have a VF40 in my hands a few days ago, but the mounts on that thing are so rump roast backwards, it would be quite a bit of work to make it fit. I'm guessing that you are installing a front mount intercooler(WRX FMIC kit maybe?) and you need to clock the compressor housing to make the piping fit properly. There. Maybe i'll take the guard off and remove the compressor for the air susp and put it there...... I still have to find some more hose to run the WAIC. I have the legacy stuff but its all the wrong lengths and shapes. Anyone got any idea on where to get that kinda hose?
