98 legacy sedan-driver's window switch faltering

Featured Replies

Driver's window falters in the raising mode (only). This happens intermittantly. How easy is it to remove and replace the switch? Or can it just be cleaned? A friend examined the problem - he's sure it's the switch and not the channel for the glass.

If replacement is called for, must I do the whole unit - or just the one for the driver's window.

Hi. I had a similar problem I had to deal with on my mother's 98 Legacy. I looked into it, and it was indeed the master switch and nothing more. I browsed around and found a replacement off ebay, cost me about $38 with shipping. You've got to pull off the door panel, and then there are 3-4 screws holding the master switch and trim bezel on. Replace the whole switch, and button everything else back up.

I remember seeing some old posts about a similar problem, and my car has it,

when using the auto-down feature for the drivers window. When the window is down all the way, the motor keeps trying to send it down periodically. When this is happening, there will be a slight click or movement of the glass (very slight), and the window can't be rolled up.

However, if you roll down/up a passenger window, then you can roll the drivers window back up.

Doesn't happen every time, just sometimes. Might be worth a shot to search if it's a similar problem, I can't remember what the fix was.
