Gas pedal stuck to the floor

Featured Replies

Getting started working on my new 82 GL and it turns out the fuel pump is okay. BUT in getting there I pushed the gas pedal down and it won't come back up. Not with any amount of pulling on my part. So now it will start and run just fine, but it runs at 5000 RPM and stays there. (Creating huge clouds of nasty white smoke I might add from the 15 year old gas.) Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with such a thing and what is best to fix or replace to get back to a moving throttle.

I just had to fix mine although it would pull back up by hand. The pedal gear attaches to a pin with a barrel shim I had to take it off about 3/4 of the way and use pb blaster on it . work it around a bit and put it back together. hope this helps JOE.:Flame:

I just had a throttle cable "break down" on me recently. It didn't completley break, but some of the cable strands had snapped at the pedal and jammed up into the throttle cable conduit and caused the throttle to stick wide open. Just something to check....

The ruber boot at the throttle end of the cable can break apart and get up into where the cable sits on the pully, holding it tighter and around 3k rpms's. So check your rubber at the end of the cable, and make sure the throttle pully is unobstructed.

the cable could probably use lubrication, you could try a stronger return spring too.
