Timing Belt or Timing Chain?
mr_whirly replied to Sapper 157's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just purchased a 2014 Impreza; imagine how happy I was when i found out the engine (2.0) has a timing chain! -
Anyone recognize this radiator?
mr_whirly replied to mr_whirly's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Evidently I bought it off of ebay years ago, so its not in the original box just the numbers on the side. Its new, not used and I'm not sure why I bought it. Anyway thanks for the replies; for sale btw best offer plus shipping. -
Going through my parts to start selling, and I found this. I must have had it for years; its new in the box with minimal info and I don't recall where I got it.....

What year the 4WD Side step?
mr_whirly replied to wannaOLDsubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One of my '86 Brats had the side steps. (now sold) My current '86 does not! -
Full time 4wd no diff lock or dual range. No rust! Rare for an east coast car. I can get some more pics if still interested...

Not sure of the length, but Gates belt p/n #9480 works for that A/C. Maybe they can cross reference that for you.

Well the pump could be a dying, but a while back my '89 SPFI fuel pump started making noise. All that I did was remove the pump from the bracket to see if it was clogged. I ended up snapping two of the bolts btw, had to drill them out and retap. Anyway I reinstalled it with new hardware and the noise was gone, ran fine. Go figure.

Update. I took Gloyale's advice and bought that tranny on ebay...it was a BRAND NEW 4EAT IN THE CRATE for $99.00!! I had to drive to Pittsburgh (4 hrs) but it was worth it. Thank you Gloyale!! I owe you one. My biggest regret was replacing this tranny by myself in the driveway. I think I "earned" some subie stripes by doing this btw- ha. What a pain in the a@@... But the wife is happy, her turbo sedan is back on the road. BTW I have a used 4EAT with only 75K on it needs a new oil pump. Now a lawn ornament...Free!

OK I dumped my seafoam supply off at the recycler. I begged forgivness of my subies and am in search of CONKLIN. Also, I wanna get one of those 18 wheeler diesel engine ENGINE OIL FILTRATION SYSTEMS that help Conklin rock so much. Ya.

Well I'm sold with an endorsment like that!! Gotta find me some Conklin now...

Subaru factory manuals list NGK for spark plugs. I've always used them, never had a problem, and they are cheap.

OK thanks for the replies and bad news :-\. Looks like I'm in the market for a tranny.

88 GL-10 Turbo Sedan with 4EAT FT 4WD lost all foward momentum the other day on the highway, tach went up like crazy. Pulled over, no movement in any drive even reverse. ATF fluid was fine, I had just replaced the fluid because of noise, had a loud whirring noise from the tranny a week earlier. Towed home, after it cooled off it was drivable around the block but was sluggish at best, losing power as I went. Whirring noise still there. I'm not very knowledgeable about auto tranny's in general as I've always had MT, I bought this car for my wife who has tendonitous in her right arm. Any suggestions of what to look at in troubleshooting? (Converting to MT is not an option right now) Thanks.

We're going to bring the TurboWagon, and the Brat even though still needs some body work and general TLC. (The daily commuters and RX project taking up my time...) We'll try to make some more bean dip if we can remember the recipe! :-p -
