  1. I haven't tried "dedicated" snow tires on the OBS-maybe I should give it a try. Of course, I don't have dedicated snows on my old GL EITHER...and it seems to do fine in the snow.
  2. Truth be told I'd rather be in my 1989 GL Wagon 5 spd D/R in a snowstorm than my AWD OBS. Been in snow in both: my 1989 in 4wd is ON RAILS in the snow and its nice having "Lo" on reserve.....OBS does good but not awesome like my ol' touriing wagon!!!! just my EXPERIENCE.
  3. Too funny- a movie I recently rented is based on the human race dumbing down over the centuries due to stupid people "out breeding" the intelligent ones... http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/idiocracy/ Movie was ok From the guys who made Office Space and Beavis and Butthed
  4. I go about 2 or 3 oil changes with the same washer. I bought a bunch from "thepartsbin" to round off an order once (over $50 free shipping) .99 each. Its good to have a stash of new crush washers ready for oil changes. http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/products.php?year=1989&make_text=subaru&model_text=gl&category=engine_mechanical&subcategory=oiling_system
  5. I just had a throttle cable "break down" on me recently. It didn't completley break, but some of the cable strands had snapped at the pedal and jammed up into the throttle cable conduit and caused the throttle to stick wide open. Just something to check....
  6. Good grief, there was a Bike Line bicycle shop in the next parking lot. (Hangs head in shame) But the tow truck got there in 10 minutes; and the wagon is back in my driveway ready for a new cable this weekend.
  7. Well today marks the first time in 10 years of owning subes that one of left me by the road side. I notice the throttle sticking a little as I left for work, pulled over checked the cable cycled it back and forth by hand looked ok pressed on. 10 miles down the road the throttle went WIDE OPEN into red line, I shut down and coasted to a parking lot. Looks like the cable isn't completely broken but many broken cable strands under the pedal. Some of the cable must be jammed up in there for it to be stuck wide open like that.... Still can't complain, this car got me home in many a snow storm/bad weather, its a nice sunny day out, smokin a cigar waitin for triple A.......
  8. Ok how about EA-71 to EA-81 oil pan interchange? I found an EA-71 local...
  9. Ok cool I didn't know the Loyales had that set up. That might be a solution for me. I'll see what I can find at the local u-pull maybe tomorrow-thanks for the info!
  10. Thanks, but I was up at that Autozone today as a matter of fact...and Napa, and couple of others...The problem is I can't find a receiver dryer with the extra threaded "port" for the switch that mounts into the body of the receiver dryer. I assume this is a low pressure switch....if anyone knows another place that I can get away with locating this switch in the system? I'm not an a/c expert here, I just need to replace this part before I place a vacuum on the system, and then try to recharge...
  11. I am having no luck finding the right receiver/dryer at my local parts stores. Its for a 1988 GL-10 with Hitachi air conditioning. Any one have a good part number for a replacement? Thanks.
  12. OK thanks for the info Emily. Zwedall I will look around the local U-Pull this week for one -but I will keep it in mind that you have one just in case. Thanks.
  13. Any one know if the EA81-EA82 oil pans are interchangeable? I need to replace an EA-81 oil pan....
  14. Sorry that we could not make it to the cookout!! We just got back from our cross country trip thru the southern states on Saturday.. Also we finally picked up our latest addition to the fleet today.....we hope we can make it to the next "get-together"!
  15. We are game to come up- I grew up on the east coast and traveled/lived all over but haven't been up in that neck of the woods much! It would be a nice road trip. June is a busy month though, sometime in July on would be cool. On a side note of future ideas do you think Harry's in Hazelton would mind if we have a cook out in their parking lot?? That would combine a few of my favorite things: subies, u-pulls, and cook outs!! The Whirlys
  16. Thanks for the thumbs up on the chili guys. I'm happy to hear it didn't cause any permanent damage to anyone...
  17. My 1988 MT Turbowagon usually runs at 3-4 bars. I've seen it go to 5 sitting in traffic in the summer. I have a dual core radiator installed; AC (but not working.)
  18. We will get there sometime early Saturday. We are bringing one small propane grill, some brats and rolls, some beer, and I made my habenero chili for anyone who likes a little hot and spicy kick. See you tomorrow.... Randy and Lisa
  19. Beer thread! I'm just going to bring a six or two of our local brewpub ale. (They bottle/can some of their brews now) Also, we are going to bring a small cheapo camping grill (propane) to heat the chili and maybe throw some hot dogs on too....
  20. Well, all of my subes are daily commuters. Maintaining them to keep 'em on the road is the best I can do right now! Sorry-:-\ Is there going to be a "scratched and dented" area for us to park?? Maybe next year the cars will look a little better !
  21. Ok, I'm gonna make a pot of my Habanero Chili (It gets rave reviews and is pretty good...honest) Ha-I will bring a case of bottled water to supplement. Also some tortilla chips and fresh bread for the chili. I don't know what the situation is with portable grills?? Are they allowed? We could do some serious grilling if thats the case. Randy.
  22. Ok we will be there early Saturday for sure, hopefully we can do a friday night stayover. Anyway, I can make a pot of my Habanero Chili if there are a few people who like spicy. My chili gets rave reviews but its not for the faint-- only for HOT & Spicy lovers!! I could make a mild version I suppose. Been toying with a venision version too.....ok any feedback on this?
