okay heres the situation:

 

86 RX sedan, 5spd with ac

 

i recently changed the water pump and several days later i came out and the battery was compleatly dead. i had the battery checked and it was history, so after putting in a new battery it drained it by the next morning. i have pulled every nonessential fuse and then some and it still drains. it runs perfect and nothing seems wrong but i can't figure out why the heck its draining. if anybody can help me out i'd be greatfull. thanks

i'm not real sure if this will help, but have you checked the alternator? also, if you ever hooked a battery charger up backwards, it will fry the diodes in the alt. and usually a cell or two in the battery. good luck man.

Check the parking light switch on top of the steering column.. I have gotten 2 soobs now for cheap , in part because of 'wiring problems' causing the battery to drain.. turns out they didn't know about that extra parking light switch.. took me 3 dead batteries and 2 times through the owners manual to find it the first time:D

good thinkin caleb. i have to use my parking lights because the switch is gone for my tail/running lights.

 

you could also check for grounding out.

i dont have the extra parking light switch, which i thought was kinda odd though because i have one on my wagon (88 though). i also checked for grounding, and it's not showing any. i'm getting really confused now, i have no idea. would a dying alternator cause anything like this? i wouldn't think so, but then i don't know much about how the charging system works... thanks

what i meant was if the battery had enough voltage to start the car, then drove w/o being recharged, the batt. would be dead. after you run it next, drive for awhile and then aftyer shutting it off, try to restart. that would be indicative of alternator problems.

When you hook a good battery up to the car does it make any kind of spark?

 

Check ignition parts to see if they get warm. I've had older non subaru cars that would keep putting juice into the coil when the ingition is off. If you battery is drained overnight it is likely that whatever is draining it is gonna be warm or hot.

 

Theres a chance this could be related to your pump replacement, what did you remove to change the water pump?

well,i just had the alt checked and it works perfect. i hooked up the new batt. and it doesn't spark. i checked and rechecked every wire that got moved during the pump replacement and everything is fine. i can't think of anything else, but it drains the battery in less then 4 hours. only things that i can think of now are the coil and the starter, but the starter doesn't make much sense, it's working perfectly so i think i'll go after the coil next.

my bad...i do have something grounding out...now the question is what. nothing with the starter though, its the wire that heads into the fusable link box. i don't know where it goes from there though, i have all the fuses pulled so it can't go to the fusebox. anybody have a wiring diagram by chance?
