RallyKeith
Somebody over on our Rally Message board picked up a 99 Forester with a blown EJ25. I can't remember, or for some reason find, the details on which years you can swap the EJ22 directly into. So, will the 95 Automatic Legacy EJ22 swap right into a 99 Forester? Thanks, Keith
Numbchux
yes easiest way would be put the 2.5 heads and intake mani on the 2.2 shortblock. but some creative wiring work, and you could do it with the long block.
subaru360
Check and see how many bolts hold the engine to the trans. I think it was somewhere in '99 subaru went to 8 from 4. When junkyard shopping, just get one with the same bolt pattern with egr if you have it. Some people like the 95 for ej 25 to ej22 swaps because 95 ej22 is dual port. But if you just grab the y-pipe from the car you get the ej22 from , you can use 96 up engines also. All the wiring and hoses are the same and it will run fine with the ej25 computer, I do a lot of these swaps. Oh and be sure to swap the flexplates, the ej22 one is smaller.
