Door adjustment

Featured Replies

Is there a way to "pull" the door in closer to the body? My Legacy was hit lightly in the front passenger door before I bought it, and the door does not close as tightly as it should.... If I go over dirt roads, etc the light flickers, and there is a little wind noise at all times. I can push the door in about a quarter inch when it is closed and latched. I am trying to find out if there is a way to move the latch so it secures a little tighter in to the body. I tried loosening the screws on the latch in the door and the striker but neither really offer any adjustment that i can see. I thought there was some way to adjust this, am I mistaken?

I had something quite like this happen to a van I used to drive. After the accident, the door always sat funny, and leaked air/dust.

Either the door is bent, and needs to be put straight (more like replaced).... or your hinges are deformed (and need to be changed out) My van turned out to be the hinges.

Doors can be adjusted up-down and forward-backward, but not in-out from the body on anything Ive ever seen.

The striker and doorlatch are set by where the mounting-holes are placed for a tight fit.... so if you're moving the door "in" with the doorlatch already fully engaged, Id say your door is definitely bent.

Any local junkyards by you? (sometimes you can even find a color-match!)

Good luck, and keep us posted

OK, thanks, I dont want to mess with it to the extent of replacing the door, so I will just live with it. I figured it might be slightly bent, but it isnt bad enough to worry about... I will probably just figure out how to adjust the switch so the light doesn't flicker when things get bouncy

use some kind of really good glue and glue a disk, like a nickle or a thick button, to the door where it bears on the switch. if you use a nickle it would be a 5 cent fix.

You need to go to a body repair shop, they have the tools to fix it very cheap. They can straighen the hinges. In fact I have seen shade tree body repair people do wonders with just a block of wood placed in correct place and a little pressure on the door.
