fuel consumtion of an 1800 carb legacy?

Featured Replies

I've heard figures upward of 40 or more for the EJ15's in the Impreza coupes found in parts of europe. Wish we got those here. With crap like the Prius on the road you would think it would make sense - can't possibly be any slower than the Prius anyway

I dunno what you are smokin but the Pruis is NOT slow, 75 HP engine + 70 HP electric motor (and that's 70 HP 0-4000 RPM, forget the torque) with what is essentially a CVT (Uses two motor/generators), so when you plant the go pedal, the computer sends maximum power to MG2 + wraps the engine up to peak torque and holds it, so you basically have 140 HP that you can use at any speed. Trust me, they are not a slow little econobox like the Echo is (Same motor, except the Prius has a Atkinson cycle engine), I rented one on my honeymoon, outran a F350 going up a hill...

Prius 0 to 60: 12 seconds.....

2005 Suzuki swift (1.3): 11 seconds.

The prius has the MPG edge by 1. That's right - the Swift gets 45, and the Prius claims 46. Nevermind that no one ever seems to get that.

Then there's the battery replacement costs when they exceed their useful lifetime. I beleive someone mentioned that was around $8,000 :-\

That's about all anyone needs to know.

It's complicated, heavy, and just plain stupid. They are simply selling them based on misinformation, and buzz words. It's a "Hybrid" so it MUST be better .

I dunno, the one I rented got to 60 a whole hell of a lot faster than 12 seconds... it wasn't like 5 seconds, btu I had no problem merging on the highway or passing cars up hills either.. And the main advantage to the Prius is in-town driving, they get 45-50+ MPG IN TOWN...

I dunno about labor, but the battery is $3,000 but that is for the entire pack, by the time the Priuses that are on the road here start pukin batteries, they can replace individual cells instead of having to replace the whole battery unit. I do agree the price sucks, Priuses are 22ish-27ish, and you can get a loaded Yaris for 12-13 that gets 40-45 mpg..
