just wondering if someone has already replaced the rear differential bearing on an '86 loyale and what may be involved...for ex: if I pull the side cover off, will the bearing come with it ??

No.

 

You would have to reset the backlash and pinion adjustments in order to do this. You may as well replace the diff as it will be cheaper to just get a used one.
