Comms in the BRAT

Featured Replies

Just installed a CB in my '82 Brat, getting some good reports from 30+ miles out when I'm driving...

Uniden PC68XL radio, Power mic, Super Penetrator Magnet mount antenna and a Cobra Highgear external speaker. I've routed power direct from the battery...

Never seen blue climate controls before.

I had a cb in hatchback for awhile till one day the wiring caught on fire and burnt my leg and fingers. How do you have the antanna coming back into the cab?

I have the passenger sliding window open a bit and the cable comes through there. I've got the window hooked closed with a zip tie at the moment, it's open enough to let the cable through, maybe 1/4"... going to figure out something a bit more permanent though probably this weekend.

I've got a fuse right at the battery so if any insulation chafes at all then it'll pop there and I won't have any fire

sorry if this is strange question, but what do you use a CB for? I don't think I've even seen one, let alone use one :-p

CB is Citizen's Band radio, limited by the FCC to 4 watts AM carrier or 12 watts SSB. It's a free to use two way communications (voice only) that transmits in the 27mhz (11m) spectrum between 26.965 and 27.405 mhz with the channels generally spaced 10khz apart.

Lots of truckers use them for informal communication, weather reports, road conditions, and general gas bagging.

Confusing? Basically it's a form of 2 way communication with reasonably limited range, 50+ miles on a base station, 30+ for a good mobile setup... I use mine to make the 30+ mile commute each day go a bit quicker, a lot of 4x4 groups use them for trail comms...

I'v got my Cobra 25 mounted in the same location in my wagon. looks good!! That pc68 is the same as a 25. I run a Wilson 1000, and a little somthing behind the radio for some extra "kick". Lets just say the car needs to be running and reved up a bit when i key with all the goodies hooked up and running! I just need to get the dang thing back on the road.

Well now :P I betcha you'll understand when I say that the 68XL has the ERF2030 Mosfet final installed with a volted pre-driver and I'm seeing 40watts+:headbang: I've thought about a little 2pill kicker but haven't really been bothered with it yet:grin:
