Justy Suspension Upgrade???

Featured Replies

Hey guys & gals,

I'm new to the board & have been on a long endless search for some answers! I've been autox my Justy GL for the last few months & have been searching for answers on upgrading the suspension. It's an '87 in great condition, some ??? engine mods, full roll cage & two 5-point harnesses. The ??? on the engine is because the kid I bought it from had owned less than a year & he didn't have any info on the person (previous owner) who did all this work. All I know is it has a hell of a lot more than 67HP. It's clean, runs like a bandit,& attracts alot of stares & comments/questions! It a fun little car for only $700.00! I also would like to get into Solo1 hillclimbs. I'm looking for a suspension I can tune & adjust. Maybe an adjustable strut or a coil over type of set up. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

P.S. I've been on the Justy forum!

There is not a lot out there. There is a good justy board, i dont have the link right now, which may help. One of the cheaper things to do is replace the tired bushings with stiffer ones. This may take a little doing to find, as you will have to go by dimensions and not model.

Welp, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. jk :)

What nipper said. I've read on the Justy board that Subiegal will sell you all new struts/shocks for about $320.00. Unconfirmed but this may be an upgrade over the present ones. You can source new springs with whatever rate you desire, I believe. Springs are springs. I have no idea what you would do for adjustables. You could be the pioneer on this, but they're often the ones with the arrows in their backs. :)

This aspect of the Justy kind of blows me away sometimes. My car always attracts attention, stares, questions, comments. Not many of them on the road here. It's like it doesn't compute, what they're looking at. Mines a 1990 model, hatchback three door, ECVT, 4WD, the three cylinder...they're like: HUH? :)

It a fun little car for only $700.00!

Looks to me like you got a good deal, nice looking car.

Try the Justy board again and post. I'm pretty sure someone out there has adapted different struts/shocks on a Justy. It's custom work.time/money. If you would, I'd be interested in any follow-up posts.

it looks like you can modify ford escort struts.

and apparently the oem struts are very expensive. i think you should go to a yard and size up different struts, many older cars can use suspension from cars with a bigger aftermarket. for example, my brother's corolla uses camaro and mr2 struts. what ever you decide to, be sure to document it. you won't be the last to ask these questions.

good luck in your findings.
