keyless entry 1998 outback wagon

Featured Replies

Hi,

I posted about this a while ago and got some good tips. Since I bought the car used and it came with just a “hardware store” key Is there anyway to tell if the car is equipped with keyless entry. If it is I found out from the last post I can get a fob on eBay and program it. But first I want to determine if it has keyless entry.

Thanks

Frank

Outbacks came standard with power locks as did the "L" models. The Brightons didn't have the options.

Just make sure to get the proper remote for the year.

I am at a loss as to Suzam's answer?

Frank asks about keyless entry not power locks??

Yea you have to have power locks in most cases for keyless entry but ??

Anyhow, Frank look under the dash on the drivers side.

You may need to remove the lower dash panel.

The keyless entry module is a black box

located normally on the outboard kick panel.

It will have a sticker saying something to the effect of

keyless entry.

Another indicator is the presence of a push button

located in the same general area.

This button is the programing /service button

as mentioned here

Subaru Keyless entry

Hope this helps.

Sorry to be confused, but he was asking about a fob and and I started thinking about alarm systems. I guees the point I was making is that a fob wouldn't do any good without at least power locks.

Suffering from a bad head cold makes me think funny... or maybe it's the meds...

The same site that Skip refered to states that the keyless entry was an option and it was part of a optional Rocky Mountain Edition package. Ebay is a great place to get keyfobs if you need to get one. You should be able to find one for 10 to 20 dollars I would guess.

Stay away from the new ones from keylessridesoutlet on e-bay...mine didn't work unless you were almost touching the car...then the lock button quit working after only a few months. :(

Thanks for all the responses. This is my wife's car and she would appreciate the keyless entry if it is possible. I'll have a look soon. I also have a 1999 wagon with keyless entry so I'll be able to compare what is there in terms of black boxes.

happy holidays
