Quick Help . . . again :)

Recommended Posts

the second side of my carb isn't getting the vacuum it needs to open, where is it supposed to be getting it from?? i also have a very high level of vacuum coming off of a line on the front of the carb, right below a long adjustment screw (mixture?) and i don't know where that is supposed to go. i found it hoseless and discovered how much vacuum it was producing, tried hooking directly into the vacuum input for the second flap on the carb, and whoa did it open up and rev, wouldn't have stopped if i hadn't unplugged it

so sorry i'm sure this is a simple stupid thing but i've got to get on the road soon!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks everybody

86CarbedVacuumDiagrahm.jpg

The image should be rotated. But anyhow, the vaccum supply for both Choke diaphrahms should come form the Intake vac port coming straight up out of the intake, left side of of carb in the diagrahm and pass side, on engine. To find the port, just look straight down, behind the primary vacuum pulloff on the carb. It's jut to the left but basically right behind/under the carb. Nothing else comes from this port. If you are replaceing Vac lines. Make careful note of which ones are shown with "orifice" in the Vac diagrahms. Like the one that joins the main and aux diaphrams, it has a small pellet inside it with a tiny whole, so the aux doesn't get as much vac as the main.

And the one just below the idle screw is the supply for the EGR and the Thermo vaccum valve. It goes off the carb to thge left, then bends 90 deg. and hooks into the bent metal tube cluster beside the Thermostat housing. Those stupid little tubes split the line, route it to the EGR, thermo valve, and other crap. If you have disconnected the Thermovac valve, you can plump that line straight to the EGR. If you have removed or plugged you're EGR you can cap that line entirely.

The EA82 vacuum for the secondary throttle plate is ON the carb. It's a very sharply bent hose that's about 3" long and comes from the passenger side of the carb, and over to the secondary diaphragm on the back of the carb. It makes basically a 90 degree turn to do it, and they often crack because of this sharp bend.

The "main" and "auxiliary" diaphragms in that picture above are for the choke pull-off mechanism. The vacuum line he is looking for is not in that diagram as it's part of the diagram for the carb itself. That is the diagram for the engine.

He needs a cross-sectional view of the carb itself.

But it's not that hard to find. Look at the back of the carb and it should be obvious. The hose is only 3" long.

I'm editing this cause I realized I was reffering to the Aux, OP was talking about the Secondary pull-off. My bad. GD is correct here.

thank you both!!! found and corrected the prob. correct, the line directly off the manifold already is "y'd" to the first choke and to the auto trans . . . there was a output on the carb (metal) that looks like the right one to go to the secondary, i'll see when i drive here in a sec!

b.t.w. is there any reason that there were two springs attatched at the throttle cable side of that mechanism, one just hangin out and one connected so that the throttle mech would return . . . ? maybe just a poor rebuild leaving both attatched at one place, or is the other supposed to go somewhere?!

thank you both again!!
