Car Stolen... Seattle Area

Long overdue update: (and b.t.w., very nice to have the 'MB back up and running, thanks to all who put so much work into this place!) WAGON FOUND!! After a month and a half of being bummed about my wagon being gone (it's amazing how attached you can get to these old scoobs) i got a phone call from the local police dispatch, letting me know that an officer was standing behind my wagon, and could i please come take possession of it... At this point i was both excited to get 'er back, and scared about the condition that she might be in when i got there... i thought for sure they'd driven the thing into the ground, blowing the headgaskets (or worse)... "whatever" i thought, "at least i'll have my wagon back" I asked for the address where the wagon was, and ran it through google maps- and exactly like Robert said, there it was about 3 blocks away from my apartment in a kind-of upscale area where i hadn't bothered to look because i thought for sure it would be at some ghetto apartment complex or behind one of the many, many industrial distribution buildings 'round here... that's what i get for thinkin When i arrived, it was obvious that the car had been parked the morning it was stolen, and just sat there, until somebody called it in to the cops (they said they were about to call the tow company, but thought to call the police first, which i am very grateful for as the tow company probably would've cost an arm and a leg) I got excited when i saw that she wasn't all fubar'd, and even more excited when i climbed in and started her right up! Many thanks again for everybody's encouraging words, and to those who kept a look out for the car for me... hopefully i'll get a chance to meet and thank a bunch of you at WCSS too. -chris -

haha, thanks robert, it doesn't sound dumb at all! everett, like auburn, is just big enough that simply driving around may not work to find it, but i like your idea of the 5 mile radius/grid... i'll do that this weekend (was planning on doing the pawn shop thing already) ya never really know what's going thru someone's head when they do something like this... which is why i appreciate everybody keeping their eyes open, they may have given/sold it to someone else who'll drive it around -chris -

nada i hope it's just sitting at the end of some dead-end street somewhere local and the cops just haven't found 'er yet... otherwise, the more time that goes by, the more i think it's been trashed (it is a EA82T after all, all you've got to do is LOOK at it wrong and the headgaskets commit mass suicide) again, thank you very much to everyone who is keeping their eyes open for me... i hope to have a positive update to give soon! zap, thanks for taking the high road... makes me a little embarrassed... -

Thanks. Plate ends in ZWQ and Karma, couldn't agree more on that one... I don't think I should've had this coming to me, but if so... so be it. -

thank you jeff, i may have to do that... -turns out that they used my garage clicker that was on my visor to get into my garage too, stole a bunch of my tools and some other stuff. I was out working on the car the other day with the garage door open (stupid, stupid, stupid), I think somebody drove past and made note of the car/garage so they could come steal the tools and stuff, and just used the car as a convenient hauler for what they took. -

My wagon was stolen from in front of my apartment here in Everett this morning (hmm, Everett, stolen car- big shock right?) around 3am. It's the only form of transportation I've got, so if everybody in the Seattle area could keep their eyes peeled for it I'd be forever grateful. White '89 turbo GL wagon, looks just like this, still on Pugs with a taller ski type rack on top and the factory "turbo" sticker on the lower part of the rear doors... plates end with ZWQ

+1, those pug steelies look great powder coated . . . -
+shfourteenteen, will (threeeyedwagon) and jeff (oneeye) have mastered the 2in square steel lift and in the wheeling trips i've gone on with them, there isn't anywhere they can't go vs. folks with the 4in lift . . . (some guys just don't need 4 extra inches to get the job done ) there are several threads describing how to cut the 2x2 steel, and explaining how inexpensive it can be . . .
-
not good. definitely justifies SOME kind of reimbursement . . . bring the receipt for the bolt removal tools and make them at least pay you back for that . . . let them know you won't be shy about spreading the bad story . . . i'm still just up the road from you, if you need anything (tool, part, extra set of hands) shoot me a pm -chris
-
hey soob, will you clear your pm's, i've got a request . . .
thanks

Squeaky wheel...needs grease?
audio_file replied to msteel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1st post in quite awhile . . . but i have the same issue on the FRONT of my XT6 (which is a REAR e-braked car, right? . . .) the squeak in my car almost sounds like a repetitive "rubber on rubber" squeak more than a "something on metal" sound. mine is also more audible when the car is cold/hasn't been driven for hours. it's done it for 6 months or more, and hasn't really gotten any worse or better. before 6 months ago, the car hadn't been driven consistently for YEARS, and i had to replace the DOJ boots, so i'd just kinda figured that the noise was from something that didn't appreciate sitting in one place for years (like a wheel-bearing), or that somehow when i replaced the DOJ boots i had done something that was causing the noise its one of those noises that you can tell won't cause your car to spontaneously explode, so you learn to tune it out , but being able to solve it would be great!! -chris -
