  1. why don't you stay at the toyota site and leave the rest of us alone, enjoying the cars that this web site is dedicated to. b.t.w., next time you need to show a pic of a soob struggling on a trail to prove some kind of point (not sure exactly why you'd post an anti-subaru thread on a SUBARU website[??]), why don't you pick one thats NOT MINE. love you chris just remembered, as an aside regarding your closed minded stereotypical comments about jeep owners, that on that day at reiter's pit when my COMPLETELY STOCK 3AT pushbutton 3WD car had that bit of trouble . . . a really nice lady in a BRAND NEW jeep wrangler pulled me out of a hairy situation :-\ she even damaged her 35k rig helping me and when i offered to pay to fix the damage, her reply was something to the effect of "thats just the way it should be, don't worry about it" you wouldn't remember this, you were busy making impatient comments about how i was slowing you down (even though you were at the front of the line, trying your hardest to help NO-ONE) i don't recall you helping in any way . . . hmmmm typical toyota owner if you ask me . . .
  2. never "back", just lurking (re: seafair) http://www.subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9684 spent most of the time on board the "northwestern" crabbin boat from "the deadliest catch" . . . pretty coo . . . how was the bachelor party??
  3. sorry, had to come outta retirement for this one . . . how 'bout the "tres joto's del norte"?!! inside joke folks, move along. chris
  4. 1st time i've read thru the thread that thing looks great!! can't wait to see it at the show . . . great work with the swap, hows da powa?? chris
  5. this is just a quick question . . . is it automatic? (gear selector position can prevent any cranking- give it a good bump into P) do manuals have a safety switch that's similar (won't allow starter to engage unless clutch is in or car is in N??) chris
  6. 1) you NEED to p/u another one like i need another case of "the crabs" 2) USMB needs to add a "15 - 63" option on the "how many soobs do you own" thread - JUST FOR JEFF 3) i think it's time to open the "J.P. Used Subaru Superstore and Autoparts Warehouse" . . . i tell-yhew-whut . . . chris
  7. ROFL so many "situations" start with that exact line . . .
  8. looks really good jeff! that seems like a better daily driver than the wagon . . . fits you more
  9. i used quarters, how mickey mouse is that?! no leaks so far, but . . . i wish i had a welder good job connie! chris
  10. " . . . 'wanted, passenger parking light, passenger fender, front bumper, color matched hood' . . . aw screw it - 'FOR SALE, 1987 subaru wagon, minor body damage, freshley painted hood . . . best offer . . .'" scott, have you been sneaking around jeffs house while he's asleep again?? chris
  11. Big thanks to Mike (MPtyza) on the XT board for tracking down some tangible and exciting info on my 1990 XT6. He tracked down a service bulletin regarding the cybrid steering on XT6's (the "blue wire" recall no doubt) that lists the V.I.N.'s of the cars involved. As it turns out, there were only 9 XT6's brought into the US as Model Year 1990 products. So, even more rare than was originally thought. But here's the really cool part . . . THERE WAS ONLY ONE AWD. It's the one parked in my garage. The Service Campaign Bulletin number is WZM-48. Here's the chart showing the VIN's: Thought I'd share, not only am I very excited, but this is also good documentation regarding exactly how many 1990's there are out there. chris
  12. hey rob, i was thinking about bringing down the 1990 XT6  , but if you have something you want brought down (like a 4sale hatch or something) i'll volunteer . . . i owe you a few besides, i don't think the XT6 will be "show worthy" (at least to my standards) by then . . . chris
  13. 1) a guess? 10k. between engine work, that massive turbo kit, computers, trans/diff work, brakeing upgrades . . . at retail prices of course. 2) about 3 seconds longer than it took to do that 800hp pull 3) cut the h/p in HALF so that the car is reliable, and i'll take two!! 4) depends on the computer programming they have, they probably have a "dyno pull" setting, a "1/4 mile" setting, and a DD (read: WAY de-tuned) setting. water sprayers are easy enough to install, just in front of the intercooler to achieve a similar effect for the real world . . . chris p.s. good to see they were using proper hearing protection
  14. hey jeff, i've got that FSM if you need anything, i can email you whatever section you need. chris
  15. , no that won't be necessary. your explination was quite good enough, thank you! chris
  16. ROFL just out of curiosity gary, why not use a castrol high mileage? like you said, don't want to make this thread end up "at the podiatrist" just wonderin'? thanks chris
  17. happy b-day todd!! another year of gravestones, none with your name on them and many more to come!! chris
  18. well, i don't think they'll fit on the impreza . . . chris
  19. these tales are what makes a subaru owner, a subaru owner
  20. simple wheel bearing test . . . jack up the suspicious wheel with the parking brake on (to immobilize that front wheel) and give the wheel/tire assembly a good rough shake. side to side and top to bottom. i suppose you could even do this with the car on the ground. what you are looking for is any play in the wheel. since the brake is on, and the other front wheel is on the ground, you should get no movement from the wheel. if it wiggles, thats a sign of bearing play/wear. usually a bad wheel bearing is accompanied by a grinding noise and feeling in the steering wheel as well. chris
  21. bingo! not just an interesting read, its the research proven fact about high performance tires and their larger resistance to rolling, causing a drop of up to 20% in fuel economy. chris
  22. air tools aren't needed (agreed, they would be nice . . . ), one eye and i completely removed his brat's engine and transmission and then reinstalled the whole she-bang (after an unfotunate trans-eating mudding incident) in about 4 hours, and it only took that long because he was stuck with me as an assistant no air tools, lotsa mud in the way, but he was back out mudding before the end of the day head gaskets ARE easy, its just a step by step, follow the FSM process. (and if you get good gaskets, you don't need to go back in there and re-torque) lets go connie, git 'er dun!! chris
