Won't Start, not even a click....
this is just a quick question . . . is it automatic? (gear selector position can prevent any cranking- give it a good bump into P) do manuals have a safety switch that's similar (won't allow starter to engage unless clutch is in or car is in N??) chris

I've got a 1990 XT6!!!!!! (and- i'm a moron)
Big thanks to Mike (MPtyza) on the XT board for tracking down some tangible and exciting info on my 1990 XT6. He tracked down a service bulletin regarding the cybrid steering on XT6's (the "blue wire" recall no doubt) that lists the V.I.N.'s of the cars involved. As it turns out, there were only 9 XT6's brought into the US as Model Year 1990 products. So, even more rare than was originally thought. But here's the really cool part . . . THERE WAS ONLY ONE AWD. It's the one parked in my garage. The Service Campaign Bulletin number is WZM-48. Here's the chart showing the VIN's: Thought I'd share, not only am I very excited, but this is also good documentation regarding exactly how many 1990's there are out there. chris

caravan from seattle to Wcss #10
hey rob, i was thinking about bringing down the 1990 XT6  , but if you have something you want brought down (like a 4sale hatch or something) i'll volunteer . . . i owe you a few besides, i don't think the XT6 will be "show worthy" (at least to my standards) by then . . . chris

800+ HP in an STi?!??!
1) a guess? 10k. between engine work, that massive turbo kit, computers, trans/diff work, brakeing upgrades . . . at retail prices of course. 2) about 3 seconds longer than it took to do that 800hp pull 3) cut the h/p in HALF so that the car is reliable, and i'll take two!! 4) depends on the computer programming they have, they probably have a "dyno pull" setting, a "1/4 mile" setting, and a DD (read: WAY de-tuned) setting. water sprayers are easy enough to install, just in front of the intercooler to achieve a similar effect for the real world . . . chris p.s. good to see they were using proper hearing protection

Just put in new MWE axles, Possible problem
simple wheel bearing test . . . jack up the suspicious wheel with the parking brake on (to immobilize that front wheel) and give the wheel/tire assembly a good rough shake. side to side and top to bottom. i suppose you could even do this with the car on the ground. what you are looking for is any play in the wheel. since the brake is on, and the other front wheel is on the ground, you should get no movement from the wheel. if it wiggles, thats a sign of bearing play/wear. usually a bad wheel bearing is accompanied by a grinding noise and feeling in the steering wheel as well. chris

Gas mileage related to tire design
audio_file replied to brus brother's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXbingo! not just an interesting read, its the research proven fact about high performance tires and their larger resistance to rolling, causing a drop of up to 20% in fuel economy. chris

EA81 Head gaskets..again?
air tools aren't needed (agreed, they would be nice . . . ), one eye and i completely removed his brat's engine and transmission and then reinstalled the whole she-bang (after an unfotunate trans-eating mudding incident) in about 4 hours, and it only took that long because he was stuck with me as an assistant no air tools, lotsa mud in the way, but he was back out mudding before the end of the day head gaskets ARE easy, its just a step by step, follow the FSM process. (and if you get good gaskets, you don't need to go back in there and re-torque) lets go connie, git 'er dun!! chris

EA81 Head gaskets..again?
sounds like you're havin' a tough time connie . . . sorry (rock goin' down the one-way road, LB bein' a bit more fun than you'd planned). i'm there too. the weather finally gets better here in seattle for the summer, and i'm really bummed about not havin my G35 anymore, missin' those fun summer drives and shows. back-in-black's stuck in the garage on stands because i don't have the $ to grab the cams i want before i can put the heads back on . . . so its just me and my soobiewagon, which just isn't cutting the cheddar as a "cool guy" summer car. :-\ for what it's worth, once LB is done, you are going to forget about all the days like this and just enjoy the heck out of that car, because it'll be practically new!! chris
