January 29, 200818 yr I am trying to install the torque converter into an automatic FWD EJ22 transmission. The shaft came out of the torque converter. I've done this before but I don't recall how. It appears like the two ends of the cir-clip prevent the shaft from going back into the torque converter. What do I need to do to get this shaft and clip back in the proper place? I put black boxes around the clip ends to clarify them. Even if I pull them together they still stick out too much to slide into the converter if I leave it in place on the shaft.
January 29, 200818 yr Author turns out the two notches in the torque converter are different. so i just had to try the other side. it's obvious by looking, one notch has two notches at it's base that allow the circlip to catch into once the shaft bottoms out.
September 2, 200817 yr So Gary Do you put the two(TC and the shaft) together before you slide them into the trany OR you slide the shaft in the trany first then try to put the circlip into the TC??? And do you put a quart of ATF into TC? If so is it too heavy to manuver(seating the TC)??? Thanks
September 2, 200817 yr The shaft goes in before the TC is installed. Theres nothing in the TC that need ATF right away. I wouldn't put any in, it'll get plenty once the pump starts spinning!
September 3, 200817 yr Just curious but can anyone tell me what that clip is for? Does it have a function when the TC is seated and every thing is together? Or is it for some obscure production\assembly purpose and people put them back in simply because they are there?
