87 GL hatch questions

Featured Replies

A friend of mine is looking at an 87 GL hatch that's for sale. The car is not local to him, so we are going by pictures. Is there a way to tell if it's D/R or not from pics of the shifter? The ad says it's a 4 speed. I am not familiar at all with anything other than EA82s.

Thanks,

Andy

I just bought a '87 GL Hatch..It's a 4 speed and a dual range. I bet the one your looking at is too 'cause I'm pretty sure the S/R was discontinued years earlier.

If it's a GL then it has to be a D/R.

DL's would be single range.

STD would be single range or a 4 speed 2WD.

And yes, they did make GL's, DL's and STD's all the way till 89. They never discontinued any of the trim levels.

Thanks... I'm guessing it has an EA-81 engine? Was the EA-71 still available by '87?

Thanks again,

Yes, but only on the STD model. GL's and DL's would be EA81's.

I should know Not to guess. GD is always Lurking.:)

BTW, my '87 GL has a EA81.

4 spd means 4wd dual range. otherwise a 5spd for that model is FWD. 5spd 4wd's were in the ea82 models.

basically i am telling you its 4wd with hi lo, 1800 ea81
