2005 Forester Key Remote Died. Help!

Featured Replies

Can anyone please help me find somewhere reasonable -besides a dealer- to buy an extra alarm remote? and can I program it to work on my car? the dealer wants $120.00 just for the remote.

Thanks

You might want to check out e-bay for the remote

The programing instructions are in the owners manual

Auto Zone sells remotes. I don't know cost or availability for the Forester.

Are you sure it just doesn't need a battery?
Are you sure it just doesn't need a battery?

My 2000 remotes are still going strong but I too would try a new battery before I convicted the remote.

Did the car come with 2 remotes? Is the other one still working or is there the possibility that the receiver unit is not functioning.

Like other have mentioned, try the battery first. If that doesn't work, the issue may be with the battery terminals. I've opened mine up and have noticed that the battery terminals (the prongs that secure the battery holder to the circuit board) come loose after years of abuse. I've resoldered each of my remotes and they now work fine. Be careful not to get too much heat into the board - you just want enough to get the solder good and melted.
