It is: P0440 - Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction Anybody have an idea what might cause this, and how serious it is? Thanks! Suzam Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 This could be as simple as not tightening the gas cap or overfilling the tank and getting gas into the tubes of the system. Did the parts store clear the code? If the CEL is off now and the car is running OK then you don't have a major problem. It may also clear itself and the light will go out after a time.
