99 Legacy - No gear indicator lights on dash

Featured Replies

Hoping someone has a quick, easy answer to this one.....

Our 99 Legacy, AWD, auto, 2.2L, we just bought seems to be lacking indicator lights on the dash which tell you the gear you've moved the shifter into.

There is a black area just under the tack, which I assume is supposed to show a P, R, N, D, etc, while the engine is running... but we get nada. Didn't notice it till we drove at night and you can't be sure the car is in D3 verses D, etc....

Any ideas?

Mike

"Lacking" is the correct word, as in "they don't exist".

Do you mean the area between the "AT OIL TEMP" and "ABS" lights? If so, that's blank.

The gear selector should be illuminated whenever the exterior light are turned on via the stalk (but not by turning on the parking lights with the switch at the top of the steering column). If not, there's likely a bulb burned out.

Ah... yes.... well I guess that would explain it. Don't know why I assumed something would illuminate on the dash. I'll dig into the center console to see if I can find a burned out bulb in there.

Thanks!

M.

You're welcome. Do be careful; the bulb is on the same circuit as the dash illumination (dimmable), and a short can kill the solid-state illumination control module.

hi Mike

Do listen to what OB99W says

they are delicate

FYI

The newer styles have what you were looking for.

my 97 Oh Bee does not have the feature you speak of

but my 03 VDC does (pretty easy to see)
