March 24, 200818 yr Author Well once again I am going with the ej22. I heard that there was an axel with u joints instead of the ballbearing setup. Im gonna look more into it.
March 24, 200818 yr Times 10. I'm killing D/R's and I only have 135hp. I'm also killing axles on a 5 month interval, and rear ends on a 10 month interval. The EA drivetrain isn't meant to handle the torque of an oversized engine COMBINED with an abusive driver. If you're planning on putting in an EJ257, you are probably an abusive driver. I know I am. This is off roading it I assume? Because otherwise you are doing something terribly wrong as the EDM EA82T had 136hp stock and the drivetrain is holding up just fine on mine (which has maybe a little more than 136), alas this is de AWD tranny with difflock, but the gears and synchro's are the same as the DR (arent' they?)

I'm running 235/75r15's, and beating the bag out of the drivetrain on and off-road. The 4wd rear output gears are what let go in the D/R's. Remember that the EJ22 makes a lot more low end torque than the EA82T for the same horsepower rating. Low end torque is what kills drivetrain parts. The impact loading of pounding through the gears isn't good, and the RWD antics I've done seals their fates.

Ah, well it's nice to know you're destroying perfectly good trannys someone else would kill for you've proven your point that they are not strong enough for the EJ22, don't think it's time to stop it?
March 25, 200818 yr A D/R tranny is not designed for RWD. It will eventually eat the teeth off the ring gear in the front diff. It has nothing to do with torque or HP. The gear set is not designed for it. Been there, done that.
